2010 Middle School 7th Grade State Tournament (Boys)
Kentucky Basketball Academy
This event was held February 5-7, 2010 at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington, Ky. Fifty Eight teams were scheduled to play in this event with a play-in game scheduled for Friday night with the tournament play starting on Saturday morning. I will have a complete write-up on my website at a later date. I will give a brief recap on the last sixteen teams and any statistics mentioned here came from the scoresheets at the KBA.
Saturday February 6th Round of Sixteen
Southern 61 Shelby West 31 – Kenny Spear led Southern with 19 points including five three point baskets. Adam Isaacs and Chris Lynch added 12 and 10 points respectively. Deion Cochran led Shelby West with 10 points.
Wayne County 53 LTMS 38 – Corey Stearns and Logan Gardner led Wayne County with 24 and 17 points respectively. Josh Owsley and Sydney Hugle led LTMS with 18 and 10 points respectively.
Scott County 43 Anderson County 40 – Matt Malesick and Clark Griffith led Scott County with 16 and 15 points respectively. Chris Toomey and Brice Stockton led Anderson County with 13 and eight points respectively.
Virgie 50 Calloway County 34 – Andrew Newsome led Virgie with 22 points. Cory Hamilton added 12 points on four three point baskets. Connor Wagner led Calloway County with 20 points including four three point baskets.
South Laurel 60 Conner 34 – Zack Allen led South Laurel with 20 points. Jacob Barnes and Jaydon Whalen led Conner with nine and six points respectively.
AB Combs 43 JCTMS 33 – Dusty Hughes, Brandon Kilburn, and Austin Neace led AB Combs with 14, nine, and eight points respectively. Corey Douglas led JCTMS with 12 points.
Knox County 55 Jackson County 34 – Jeffery Adams led Knox County with 17 points including five three point baskets. Brandon Gray and Trent Tuttle added 11 and nine points respectively. Jacob Hammans led Jackson County with 12 points.
Johnson County 42 Northern 24 – Braxton Blair led Johnson County with 13 points. Caleb Cox led Northern with seven points.
Sunday February 7th Tournament Round
Wayne County 60 Southern 42 (Quarterfinal) – Wayne County was led by Logan Gardner with 25 points. Corey Stearns added 17 points. Trey Blevins chipped in with 13 points including three three point baskets. Adam Isaacs and Tyler Dishman led Southern with 23 and 10 points respectively.
Virgie 48 Scott County 26 (Quarterfinal) – Andrew Newsome, Dalton Richardson, and Cory Hamilton led Virgie with 17, 12, and 12 points respectively. Clark griffith and Matt Malesick led Scott County with nine and seven points respectively.
South Laurel 67 AB Combs 36 (Quarterfinal) – Zack Baxter, Zack Allen, Tanner Bell, and Joe Gaines led South Laurel with 17, 14, 11, and 10 points respectively. Josh Garry and Brandon Kilburn led AB Combs with nine and seven points respectively.
Knox County 52 Johnson County 44 (Quarterfinal) – Matthew Barger, Chad Marsee, and Trent Tuttle led Knox County with 21, 11, and nine points respectively. Hunter Ratliff, Braxton Blair, and Truman Salyer led Johnson County with 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.
Wayne County 65 Virgie 63 (Semifinal) – Wayne Conty recorded nine three point baskets in their victory. Logan Gardner and Corey Stearns led Wayne County with 23 and 13 points respectively. Trey Blevins and Peyton Woods each recorded 12 points on four three point baskets. Andrew Newsome and Dalton Richardson led Virgie with 27 and 20 points respectively.
Knox County 65 South Laurel 56 (Semifinal) – Matthew Barger led Knox County with 23 points. Brandon Gray and Trent Tuttle added 16 and 13 points respectively. Zack Baxter led South Laurel with 21 points. Tanner Bell, Zack Allen, and Joe Gaines added 12, 10, and 10 points respectively.
Wayne County (25-3) 65 Knox County (29-1) 61 (Championship) – Wayne County recorded six three point baskets while Knox County connected on eight three point baskets. Logan Gardner led Wayne County with 26 points. Corey Stearns added 17 points and Trey Blevins chipped in with 15 points on five three point baskets. Jeffery Adams and Trent Tuttle led Knox County with 19 points and recorded four and three point baskets respectively. Matthew Barger added 15 points. Corey Stearns and Logan Gardner both had excellent tournaments for Wayne County and Gardner was named tournament MVP.
This was an excellent well run event with a lot of good teams with excellent individual talent. I will cover this tournament in a complete write-up at a later date.
