2009 Girls Middle School 7th Grade State Tournament
Topic: Basketball

This tournament was held November 7th and 8th, 2009 at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington Kentucky.

Elite Eight

Stuart Pepper (Meade County) 41  Anderson County 24 (Quarterfinal)

Morgan Turner led Stuart Pepper with 16 points. Kristin Peters added eight points.  Tianesha Cunningham, Corrin Robinson, and Sydney Stratton led Anderson County with seven five and five points respectively.

Southern 33  Bracken County 12 (Quarterfinal)

Brittany Combs led Southern with 14 points including four three point baskets.  Destiny Molden added 12 points.  B. Cummins led Bracken County with eight points.

Lincoln County 37  Whitley County 29 (Quarterfinal)

Heidi Huffman led Lincoln County with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Spencer Sims added eight points.  Hallie Jones led Whitley County with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Haley Mahan added 10 points.

Casey County 43  Johnson County 30 (Quarterfinal)

Lakken Miller led Casey County with 13 points.  Cydney Warner, Christin Terry, and Tiara Cochran added nine, eight, and eight points respectively.  Ra. Fairchild led Johnson County with 18 points.

Stuart Pepper (Meade County) 31  Casey County 30 (Semifinal)

Kelsey Sutton and Morgan Turner led Stuart Pepper with 12 and 11 points respectively.  Lakken Miller and Christin Terry led Casey County with 13 and nine points respectively.

Lincoln County 45  Southern 29 (Semifinal)

Lincoln County raced out to an 11-0 first quarter lead on their way to victory.  Spencer Sims, Heidi Huffman, Kelsi Honaker, and Ashtyn Lovett led Lincoln County with 10, 10, nine, and eight points respectively.  Brittany Combs led Southern with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Adison Corder and Destiny Molden added eight and six points respectively.

Lincoln County 38  Stuart Pepper (Meade County) 28 (Championship)

Lincoln County pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Stuart Pepper 38-28.  Lincoln County's pressure defense was the key in this tournament as they seemed to turn it up a notch when needed after a made basket.  Ashtyn Lovett, Tiandra Hocker, Heidi Huffman, and Spencer Sims led the victors with 10, eight, seven, and seven points respectively.  Morgan Turner and Addi Lynch led Stuart Pepper with eight points each.

Congratulations to Coach Billy Harris (Lincoln County) and Todd Saylor (Stuart Pepper) for a fine job in this tournament.  There were some good teams in this tourney with some excellent individual performances.  Some of the players on display this weekend will log quality varsity minutes this season even at this early age.

Pendleton County (7-3) vs. Lexington Catholic (6-4) 4A Playoffs November 6th
Topic: Football

Lexington Catholic exploded for 55 first half points on their way to a 62-0 victory over Pendleton County.  The LexCath defense held Pendleton County to 52 yards of total offense and -3 yards on the ground.

Lexington Catholic recorded 16 first downs and 400 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized eight times for 106 yards and lost a fumble.  Pendleton County recorded six first downs and 52 yards of total offense.  Thet were penalized three times for 34 yards, lost two fumbles and had one pass intercepted.

Greg Raglin led Lexington Catholic's ground game with 137 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries.  Raglin reached the 3000 yard mark in career rushing with his 36th yard gained tonight. Nic Ward completed 13 of 17 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns.  Ryne Least caught four passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.  Adam Wachs led the defense with three solo tackles and a blocked punt which he recovered for a touchdown.  Zach Mitchell added two solo and two assisted tackles.

Dillon Greene led Pendleton County's ground game with 14 yards on 10 carries.  Sam Harrison completed three of 10 passes for 55 yards with one interception.  Garrett Farrell caught two passes for 47 yards.  Brett Lorenz led the defense with nine solo and one assisted tackle with four of his tackles resulting in losses totalling eight yards.

Doss (4-6) vs. Anderson County (9-1) 5A Playoffs November 6th
Topic: Football

Doss outscored Anderson County 21-14 in the final quarter to earn a 40-37 victory over the Bearcats.  Doss recorded 10 first downs and 254 yards of total offense.  They were penalized nine times for 67 yards and had one pass intercepted.  Anderson County recorded 18 first downs and 388 yards of total offense.  The Bearcats were penalized four times for 44 yards and had one pass intercepted.

Donald Bethel led the Doss ground attack with 75 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.  Tyrone Mack carried the ball seven times for 62 yards.  Deontae Yarnell completed three of 10 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Rasian Shardon caught two passes for 73 yards and a TD.  Tyrone Mack caught two passes for 55 yards and a TD.  Joseph Segvich led the defense with 14 solo tackles.  Jermaine Sutton added seven solo tackles.

Tates Creek (5-5) vs. Scott County (7-3) 6A Playoffs November 6th

Scott County scored two touchdowns in the final quarter including a TD  with 23 seconds remaining in the game to register a 27-17 come-from-behind victory over Tates Creek.

Scott County recorded 15 first downs and 287 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized five times for 25 yards and lost a fumble.  Tates Creek recorded 17 first downs and 338 yards of total offense.  The Commodores were penalized three times for 30 yards and lost a fumble.

Josh Walls led the Scott County ground game with 94 yards and a TD on 18 carries.  Brooks Barber carried the ball 16 times for 63 yards.  Tevin Buffin added 31 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.  Buffin completed three of four passes for 90 yards and a TD.  Danny Arnold caught two passes for 57 yards and a TD.  Jordan Kindred led the defense with five solo and four assisted tackles.  Aaron Mudrak added four solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and a fumble recovery.

Brandon Shrout led the Tates Creek ground game with 38 yards on nine carries.  Dee Christopher added 30 yards and a TD on 10 carries.  Christopher completed 16 of 23 passes for 243 yards.  Brandon Shrout caught five passes for 87 yards.  LaRobert Bett added four receptions for 65 yards.  Jon. Meadors led the defense with nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and a fumble recovery.  William Layne and Aaron Mullins each recorded five solo and one assisted tackle.

Lafayette (6-4) at Henry Clay (8-2) 6A Playoffs November 6th
Topic: Football

Henry Clay rolled up 469 yards of total offense and avenged a regular season loss to Lafayette with a 47-10 victory.  Lafayette took an early 10-0 lead but Henry Clay rallied to take a 14-10 halftime lead. It was all Henry Clay in the second half as the Blue Devils outscored the Generals 33-0 to take a big win and advance in the playoffs.

Henry Clay recorded 19 first downs and 469 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized 10 times for 89 yards and lost three fumbles.  Lafayette recorded 12 first downs and 277 yards of total offense.  The Generals were penalized eight times for 78 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.

Bo Brooks led Henry Clay's ground game with 71 yards on 12 carries.  Vinny Miller added 56 yards on seven carries.  Jerry Williams recorded 40 yards on nine carries.  Williams completed 12 of 14 passes for 296 yards and six touchdowns.  Blake Green caught five passes for 69 yards and a TD.  Branden Johnson added four receptions for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Tyr. Johnson caught two passes for 66 yards and a TD.  Slade Klinksiek led the defense with six solo and three assisted tackles.Shan Howell added six solo and one assisted tackle.

Eric Shaw Jr. led Lafayette's ground game with 112 yards and a TD on seven carries.  Brett Durbin completed 10 of 28 passes for 131yards with one interception.  Eric Shaw Jr. caught five passes for 92 yards.  Eric Shaw Jr. led the defense with five solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and recovered a fumble.  David Kenner added four solo and three assisted tackles.

Trinity 14  Lexington Catholic 13 - Xavier Thomas scored on a one yard run and Cooper Bohn kicked the extra point with 21 seconds remaining in the game to give the Shamrocks a come-from-behind victory.  Greg Raglin led LexCath with 163 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.

Lexington Christian Academy 41  Corbin 21 -LCA rallied from a 14-0 deficit to defeat Corbin 41-21.  Domonique Hayden led the Eagles with 261 yards and two TDs on 33 carries.  Caleb Watkins ledCorbin with 202 yards and two touchdowns.  Watkins also had an eight yard TD reception.

Bryan Station 25  North Hardin 6 - Chaz Mitchell carried the ball five times for 143 yards including TD runs of 81and 57 yards and added another TD on a 79yard kickoff return to lead the Defenders.

Fern Creek 27  ScottCounty 19 - QB Bryan Hynes completed 20 of 28 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns to lead Fern Creek to victory.

Tates Creek 33  Woodford County 27 - Tates Creek led 33-14 in the fourth quarter and held on for the victory.

Henry Clay 47  Paul Dunbar 0 - The ballhawking Henry Clay defense intercepted three passes in an easy victory over Paul Dunbar.

Bellevue 41  Lloyd Memorial 28-Ricky Buckler carried the ball 49 times for 362 yardsand four touchdowns in a Tiger victory.

Estill County 42 Madison Southern 40 - Kenton Roberts ran for TDs of 11, 8, 13, 80, and 3 yards to lead Estill County to victory.  Rico Brown had a monster night for Madison Southern as he carried the ball 19 times for 230 yards including TD runs of 54, 2, 4, 26, and 70 yards and added a 64 yard scoring reception.

Highlands 31  Ryle 14 - Highlands star RB Austin Collinsworth was out with an injury but no problem as Tyler Fennell filled in and ran for 214 yards.

Boone County 28  Dixie Heights 21 - Charles Quainoo carried the ball 40 times for 270 yards including TD runs of 15 and 50 yards to lead the Rebels to victory.

Perry County Central 53  Leslie County 16 - QB Jordan Amis got it done on the ground ( six carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns ) and through the air ( 12 of 18 passes for 314 yards and five touchdowns ) in a big victory tonight.

Anderson County 60  Spencer County 18 - QB Jacob Russell ran for two TDs and completed 12 of 17 passes for 222 yards including TD passes of 26 and 20 yards to lead the Bearcats to victory.

Owensboro 17  Henderson County 14 - Ownsboro rallied from a 14-0 first quarter deficit to earn the victory on an 11 yard run by Kal Prince in the fourth quarter.

Bell County 41  Harlan County 14 - Bell County improves to 9-1and remains undefeated against in-state competition. Cory Davenport ran for 149 yards including TD runs of 16, 54, and 24 yards. Davenport also scored on a 22 yard pass reception.

Trinity (5-4) at Lexington Catholic (6-3) October 30th

Trinity's Xavier Thomas scored on a one yard run on a fourth-and-goal from the one with 21 seconds remaining in the game and Cooper Bohn kicked the extra point to give the Shamrocks a 14-13 victory over the Knights.

Lexington Catholic took a 13-0 lead at halftime and looked like they would put the game away in the fourth quarter as they were driving for a touchdown with a 13-7 lead.  They moved to the Trinity 4 yard line but on a first-and-goal a three yard run by Greg Raglin was nullified by a penalty which moved the ball to the 10 yard line. The next play resulted in a fumble that Trinity recovered on their own 10 yard line.  Both teams exchanged punts and Trinity started their winning drive from their own 47 yard line.

Trinity recorded 16 first downs and 262 yards of total offense.  The Shamrocks were penalized seven times for 62 yards and had a pass intercepted.  Lexington Catholic recorded 20 first downs and 314 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized eight times for 64 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Derek Bishop led Trinity's ground game with 49 yards on 11 carries.  Xavier Thomas carried the ball 16 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns.  Brad Kragthorpe completed 14 of 24 passes for 169 yards with one interception.  Robert Melillo caught three passes for 47 yards.  Al. Cartright also had three receptions for 42 yards.  Adam Reynolds led the defense with six solo tackles and a fumble recovery.  Clayton Meyer added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Robert Melillo recorded five solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and intercepted a pass.

Greg Raglin led Lexington Catholic's ground attack with 163 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.  Patrick Hager carried the ball six times for 37 yards.  Nic ward completed seven of 20 passes for 100 yards with one interception.  Bryce Andrews caught three passes for 43 yards.  Jordan Artrip led the defense with seven solo and one assisted tackle with three of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 16 yards.  Zach Mitchell added six solo and three assisted tackles.  Andrew Gathy and Benton Hupman each recorded six solo tackles.

Fern Creek (6-3) at Scott County (7-2) October 30th

Fern creek defeated Scott County tonight by a score of 27-19.  Fern Creek recorded 15 first downs and 328 yards of total offense.  Fern Creek was penalized five times for 48 yards and lost a fumble.  Scott County recorded 16 first downs and 271 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized twice for 20 yards and lost a fumble.

Jerrell Moore led Fern Creek's ground game with 61 yards on 13 carries.  Bryan Hynes completed 20 of 28 passes for 246 yards for three touchdowns.  Carlos Smith caught nine passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.  Jerrell Moore added eight receptions for 77 yards.  Carlos Smith led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles.  Taj Jarrett added five solo and four assisted tackles.

Josh Walls led Scott County's ground attack with 110 yards and a TD on 21 carries.  Brooks Barber added 62 yards and a TD on 14 carries.  Tevin Buffin completed four of 12 passes for 47 yards.  Josh Walls caught three passes for 38 yards.  Forrest Baker led the defense with four solo and seven assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totalling nine yards.  Aaron Mudrak added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Blake Sears recorded five solo and one assisted tackle with two of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 10 yards.  Josh Walls chipped in with three solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and one fumble recovery.
