Bryan Station (16-4) vs. Scott County (19-3) Boys

Georgetown KY February 9th  -  Scott County opened the fourth quarter with a 21-5 run to increase their lead to 27; 82-55 on their way to an 89-73 victory over Bryan Station.  Scott County held a 32-13 advantage in free throw points.

Scott County shot 47.3% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 32 of 39 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 15 Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 37.9% from the field including 10 of 37 from beyond the arc.  The Defenders connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 19 Scott County turnovers.

6-8 Sr. Richie Phares led Scott County with 21 points and nine rebounds.  6-8 Jr. Dakotah Euton added 18 points.  6-4 Jr. Chad Jackson recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals.  6-2 Jr. Ge-Lawn Guyn chipped in with 13 points.

6-2 Sr. Charles Ashford led Bryan Station with 28 points including four three point baskets.  6-0 Jr. Jpe Fain added 15 points including four three point baskets.

Clay County (15-8) vs. Lexington Catholic (12-10) Girls

Lexington KY February 9th  -  Clay County led 11-9 after the first quarter but Lexington Catholic outscored the Lady Tigers 21-9 in the second quarter to take control on their way to a 59-47 victory.  Lexington Catholic scored 24 points off 21 Clay County turnovers and held a 27-0 advantage in bench scoring.  The Lady Knight's depth paid dividends tonight as they had nine players who logged more than eight minutes.

Lexington Catholic shot 46.2% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on six of nine free throws and pulled down 21 rebounds.  Clay County shot 47.1% from the field including zero of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 13 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

5-9 Sr. Maggie Wilson led Lexington Catholic with 16 points.  5-8 Sr. Danielle Corbett added 10 points.  5-11 Fr. Alex Botkin chipped in with eight points.

6-1 So. center Whitney Belle Jackson was unstoppable in the paint for Clay County as she muscled her way inside for 21 points and eight rebounds.  Jackson also blocked four shots.   5-9 Jr. Danielle Fox added 11 points.  5-10 Jr. Jordan Phillips recorded nine points and seven rebounds.

Bryan Station (15-4) vs. Louisville Central (7-9) Boys

Louisville KY February 6  -  Bryan Station shot 63.2% from the field in a 92-84 victory over Central.  The Defenders shot a sizzling 67.7% in the first half but the score was tied at 51-51 at the intermission as Central also was on target shooting 60.6% from the field.  Bryan Station outscored Central 22-12 in the third quarter to get a little breathing room and held on in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Bryan Station shot 63.2% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Defenders connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 19 Central turnovers.  Bryan Station held a 30-13 advantage in bench scoring.    Central shot 47.9% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Yellow Jackets connected on 13 of 22 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 20 Bryan Station turnovers.

6-2 Sr. Charles Ashford led Bryan Station with 26 points.  5-10 Sr. Montell Morones added 17 points.  6-2 Sr. Cameron Richardson chipped in with 15 points.  6-3 Sr. Jeremiah Mabson recorded 11 points and  nine rebounds.

6-4 Sr. Ridge Wilson led Central with 24 points and six rebounds.  6-6 Jr. Tim Patterson recorded a double-double with 22 points and six rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Alex Morrison chipped in with 13 points.

2009 Kentucky Basketball Academy 7th Grade Middle School Tourney
Topic: Basketball

The 2009 Kentucky Basketball Academy Boys' 7th Grade state basketball tournament was held in lexington kentucky February6-8, 2009.  Fifty teams were from all over the state were scheduled to play in this tourney.

Eight teams advanced to play in the quarterfinals on Sunday February 8th.

Knox County 32 Lexington Traditional Middle School 30  (Quarterfinal)  -  Knox County jumped out to an 11-2 first quarter lead but had to survive a furious rally by LTMS to earn the victory.  Knox County was led by Johnathan Gist and Robbie Williams with 13 and eight points respectively.  LTMS was led by Charles "Snoop" Johnson with 13 points.  Teddy Ware added nine points on three three point baskets.

Johnson County 33 Scott County 27 (Quarterfinal)  - Johnson County outscored Scott County 14-7 in the final quarter to earn the victory.  Shane Hall led the victors with 18 points.  Hines Jones led Scott County with 15 points on five three point baskets.

Moss 39 Wayne County 27 (Quarterfinal)  - Jacob Hall and Wayne Baird led the victors with 11 points each.  Peyton Woods, Jason Perkins, and Logan Gardner led Wayne County with eight, six, and six points respectively.

Clinton County 44 South Laurel 43 (Quarterfinal)  - Keifer Dalton nailed a three point basket with two seconds left on the clock to give Clinton County the victory.  Bailey Rains led the victors with 14 points including four three point baskets.  Colby Langford added 10 points.  Trevor Grubb and Logan Helton led South Laurel with 16 and 14 points respectively.

Johnson County 49 Knox County 46 (Semifinal)  -  Johnson County raced out to a 15-4 first quarter lead but had to hold off a Knox County rally to earn the victory.  Hunter Ratliff and Shane Hall led Johnson County with 17 and 16 points respectively.  Dustin Hensley led Knox County with 13 points including three three point baskets.  Robbie Williams and Matthew Barger added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Moss 43 Clinton County 33 (Semifinal)  -  Chris Porter, Scooter Winn, and Wayne Baird led Moss with 12, nine, and seven points respectively.  Colby Langford and Joe Davis led Clinton County with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Moss (30-0) 53  Johnson County (30-0) 28 (Championship)   - Jordan Hall and Jacob Hall led Moss with 12 and 10 points respectively.  Hunter Ratliff and Shane Hall led Johnson County with seven and six points respectively.

Jacob Hall was named tournament MVP for Moss and had an excellent tournament.  Moss out of Bowling Green played excellent team ball with different players stepping up to lead their team in all the games.  Moss also got excellent play from their bench and it was difficult to pick one standout on their team as several players had excellent tourneys.

Moss had a battle to reach Sunday's play as they had to defeat an excellent Crosby team 37-33 in the round of sixteen on Saturday night.

This was an excellent tourney with several good teams and many players capable of starring down the road at the high school level.  Statistics mentioned here were taken from the official scoresheets and I apologize for any transcription errors.

Henry Clay (11-9) vs. Madison Central (14-7) Boys

Richmond KY February 5th  -  Henry Clay led 15-4 after the first quarter and 23-20 at halftime but Madison Central roared back in the second half to defeat the Blue Devils 62-38.  Madison Central outscored Henry Clay 42-15 in the second half and shot 59.3% from the field after the intermission.

Madison Central shot 48.9% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 10 of 18 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 16 Henry Clay turnovers. Henry Clay shot 34% from the field including two of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers.

6-1 Sr. Keshawn Simpson led the victors with 20 points and nine rebounds.  Simpson was eight of 11 from the field and four of seven from the free throw line.  6-2 Sr. Terry Jarvis added 16 points including three three point baskets.  6-2 Sr.  Vince Clay chipped in with 11 points.

6-0 Sr. Prince Stewart led Henry Clay with 14 points.  6-3 Sr. TJ Barnes added eight points and seven rebounds.  6-4 So. Daniel Kiesling also recorded eight points.

Paul Dunbar (11-4) vs. Tates Creek (9-8) Boys

Lexington KY February 5th  -  Dunbar's Nick Hudson hit a free throw with less than one second on the clock to give the Bulldogs a 61-60 victory over Tates Creek.  Ryan Fucci had tied the score at 60-60 with a steal and layup with 21 seconds left in the game.  Hudson was fouled on a drive to the basket and was awarded two free throws.  He missed the first but connected on the second one for the win.

Dunbar shot 49% from the field including four of ten from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on nine of 17 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 32 points off 22 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 53.1% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers.

6-8 Sr. Tyler Rogers led Dunbar with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  5-11 Sr. Nick Hudson added 14 points and seven assists.  5-9 Sr. Marquis Clay chipped in with 12 points.

6-3 So. Marcellus Barksdale led Tates Creek with 28 points and 11 rebounds.  6-2 So. Ryan Fucci added 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Scott County (16-3) vs. Franklin County (13-3) Boys

February 2 Frankfort KY  - Scott County captured a hard fought 76-68 over Franklin County.  Scott County shot well tonight shooting 52.1% from the field for the game including 57.9% in the second half.  Franklin County held a 21-6 advantage in three point points and held a 16-8 advantage in second chance points.

Scott County shot 52.1% from the field including two of five from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 24 of 36 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored eight points off 14 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 38.9% from the field including seven of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Flyers connected on 19 of 29 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 11 Scott County turnovers.

6-2 Jr. Ge-Lawn Guyn led Scott County with 22 points.  Guyn was seven of 11 from the field and seven of eight from the free throw line.  6-8 Sr. Richie Phares also recorded 22 points and was eight of 11 from the field and six of seven from the free throw line.  6-4 Jr. Chad Jackson added 17 points and nine rebounds.  6-8 Jr. Dakotah Euton chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds.

6-8 Sr. Andy Donovan led Franklin County with 16 points.  6-0 Sr. Deron Hicks added 15 points.  6-3 Sr. Barrett Meyer chipped in with 11 points.  6-6 Sr. Ryan Conner recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hicks, Meyer, and Donovan each recorded two three pont baskets.

Newport Central Catholic 41 Paris 30 (Quarterfinal) -  Newport Central Catholic scored 24 points off 30  Paris turnovers.  NCC was led by 5-6 So. Kiley Bartels with 14 points.  5-6 Jr. Courtney Sandfoss added 13 points and seven steals.  5-8 Sr. Emily Hinkson led Paris with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots.5-7 So. Morgan Crain added eight points.

Lexington Christian Academy 73 Owensboro Catholic 45 (Quarterfinal) -  5-11 Sr. Courtney Clifton led LCA with 22 points including three three point baskets.  5-10 Sr. Anna Martin added 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, and six steals.  6-2 Jr. Sarah Beth Barnette recorded 15 points including three three point baskets, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots.5-6 Jr. Kaley Robertson led Owensboro Catholic with 19 points and eight rebounds.  5-11 8th grader Becca Greenwell added nine points.

Green County 57 Ballard Memorial 33 (Quarterfinal) -  5-7 Fr. Micah Jones led the victors with 14 points and six steals.  5-11 Jr. Kelsey Mitchell added 13 points.  5-7 Jr. Candace Bryant led Ballard Memorial with 14 points.  5-11 So. Abby Shelley added seven points and 10 rebounds.

Lexington Christian Academy 51 Newport Central Catholic 49 (Semifinal) -  LCA rallied from a 36-25 deficit to defeat Newport Central Catholic in a thriller.  Newport Central Catholic missed key free throws late and LCA's Courtney Clifton hit a field goal in the closing seconds to give the Lady Eagles the victory.  5-10 Sr. Anna Martin led the victors with 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and five steals.  5-11 Sr. Courtney Clifton added 14 points.  5-6 So. Kiley bartels led NCC with 13 points and five assists.  5-11 Jr. Mariah Tabor added 11 points and 13 rebounds.  5-7 Sr. Jane Giesler chipped in with 10 points.  5-6 Jr. Courtney Sandfoss recorded eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, and six steals.

Green County 61 Sheldon Clark 56 (Semifinal) -  5-7 Fr. Micah Jones led Green County with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five steals.  5-9 Jr. Morgan Deaton added 16 points.  5-7 So. Carla Booth led Sheldon Clark with 25 points including four three point baskets , 13 rebounds, and seven assists.  5-5 8th grader Katelyn Newsome added 11 points and five assists.

Lexington Christian Academy 70 Green County 43 (Championship) -  5-11 Sr. Courtney Clifton led LCA with 24 points including three three point baskets.  5-10 Sr. Anna Martin added 18 points and nine rebounds.  6-2 Jr. Sarah Beth Barnette recorded 14 points including three three point baskets and 14 rebounds.  5-11 Sr. Meg Hartfield and 5-11 Jr. Kelsey Mitchell led Green County with 13 points each.

Shelby Valley 55 Elliott County 52 (Semifinal) -  Shelby Valley held a 38-23 lead but had to hold on down the stretch to defeat Elliott County.  Shelby valley was only nine of 22 from the free throw line and missed several key free throws down the stretch.  Elliott County had a last second attempt to tie the game but a three point attempt was off the mark.  6-6 Jr. Ashley Hatfield and 5-11 Jr. Elisha Justice each scored 12 points for Shelby Valley.  6-10 Sr. Devan Adams added 11 points and seven rebounds.  6-2 Sr. Ethan Faulkner led Elliott County with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.  6-2 Sr. Jonathan Ferguson also recorded 15 points.  6-2 Sr. Chris Knipp added 14 points.

Shelby Valley 58  Bardstown 55 (Championship) -  Bardstown missed a long three point attempt at the buzzer today and Shelby Valley held on for the victory.  5-11 Jr. Elisha Justice led the victors with 13 points and six assists.  5-10 Sr. Logan Bryant came up big with 12 points including two key three point baskets.  6-3 Jr. Taylor Newsome added five point, 12 rebounds, and four assists.  6-5 Jr. Tyler Newsome chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.  6-3 Sr. Jordan Hickman led Bardstown with 21 points and five assists.  6-6 Sr. Demarco Phillips added 13 points and 6-4 Sr. Damien Edelen recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

Lexington Catholic (16-5) vs. West Jessamine (14-6) (Boys)

Nicholasville KY - January 24th - West Jessamine defeated Lexington Catholic 102-92 bolstered by the record setting performance by 6-1 Jarrod Polson.  Polson tallied 51 points including a state record 30 of 37 free throws.  Polson set the record both in free throws attempted and free throws made.

West Jessamine shot 54.9% from the field including three of 17 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 43 of 55 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 43.6% from the field including eight of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on 16 of 22 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 13 West Jessamine turnovers.

Polson led the victors with 51 points.  Jonathan Rehner added 24 points and 10 rebounds.  Kyle Mefford chipped in with 11 points.  6-3 Sr. Vee Sanford led Lexington Catholic with 32 points including three three point baskets.  Sanford pulled down six rebounds and recorded seven steals.  6-3 So. Taylor Martin added 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.  6-3 Sr. Taylor Botkin recorded 14 points including three three point baskets.
