Scott County vs. Madison Southern (Girls)

Scott County coach Steve Helton started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Kaylie Wise, 5-7 Jr. Brianna Penney, 6-0 Sr. Kenady Tompkins, 5-6 Fr. Maleiyah Moore, and 5-6 Jr. Emma Price.  Madison Southern coach Josh Curtis countered with 5-11 Jr. Macie Daniels, 5-7 Sr. Lacie Parks, 6-0 Jr. Reece Estep, 5-6 Jr. Morgan Flannery, and 5-7 Sr. Samantha Cornelison.

 

Madison Southern’s 5-5 So. Tara Wooten hit a three point basket at the buzzer to force overtime and the Lady Eagles outscored Scott County 6-2 in overtime to earn a 62-58 victory.  Scott County led 43-33 after three quarters but Madison Southern outscored the Lady Cardinals 23-13 in the final quarter to force overtime.  The score was tied four times and there were four lead changes in the game.  Madison Southern shot 27.3% from the field including nine of 36 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 17 of 30 free throws, pulled down 54 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 28.6% from the field including six of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 20 of 26 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 Madison Southern turnovers.

 

Samantha Cornelison led Madison Southern with 15 points including two three point baskets, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Macie Daniels added 14 points including two three point baskets, six of eight free throws, 13 rebounds, three assists, and seven blocked shots.  5-5 So. Tara Wooten recorded 14 points including four three point baskets.

 

Emma Price led Scott County with 18 points including two three point baskets, six of eight free throws, and three rebounds.  Kenady Tompkins was plagued with foul problems all day and added 12 points including six of six free throws and six rebounds despite only logging 16 minutes before fouling out.  Maleiyah Moore recorded 10 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  5-6 So. Tyra Young chipped in with seven points, six rebounds, and seven assists.  Brianna Penney recorded five points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.  Kaylie Wise also pulled down eight rebounds.
