Johnson Central score a touchdown mid way through the final quarter to pull away to defeat Henry Clay in a very competitive contest. Johnson Central was without the services of star RB Joe Jackson and Henry Clay was missing QB DJ Vanhorn as injuries are taking their toll early this season. Johnson Central rolled up 377 yards and four touchdowns on the ground led by a supersized offensive line: 6-6 315 pound Sr. Ethan Bingham, 6-3 280 pound Jr. Byron Pierce, 6-3 280 pound Jr. Eddie Patrick, 6-4 270 pound Sr. Chase Owens, and 6-2 290 pound Jr. Noah Blankenship. Henry Clay countered with blazing speed including Ramond Jackson, Tyree Clarke, and Langston Jackson. Johnson Central recorded 25 first downs and 482 yards of total offense. The Golden Eagles were penalized five times for 35 yards and lost a fumble. Henry Clay recorded 11 first downs and 253 yards of total offense. The Blue Devils were penalized six times for 40 yards and lost a fumble. Johnson County ran 72 offensive plays compared to 39 for Henry Clay. Johnson County had the ball for 31:30 compared to 16:30 for Henry Clay.
Blake Gamble led Johnson Central’s ground attack with 147 yards on 27 carries. Devin Johnson carried the ball 10 times for 82 yards and a touchdown. Curtis Dorton added 73 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Dillon Preston carried the ball seven times for 69 yards and a touchdown. QB Riley Preece also ran for a touchdown.. Preece completed four of seven passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Blake Gamble caught three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. Seth Dalton added a 42 yard reception. Matt Horn led the defense with three solo and three assisted tackles. Taylor Blanton added four solo and one assisted tackles. Devin Johnson recorded four solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 11 yards.
Tyree Clarke led Henry Clay’s ground game with 122 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Langston Jackson carried the ball seven times for 67 yards and one touchdown. Michael McMullen completed four of seven passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. Ramond Jackson caught two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown. Ramond Jackson returned one kickoff for 31 yards. Graham Wald punted twice for a 41.5 average with both punts inside the 20. Wald also kicked off five times with three touchbacks. Ramond Jackson led the defense with 13 solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling seven yards. Tyree Clarke added nine solo and three assisted tackles. Dakota Kimes recorded seven solo and three assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.
