Wow! Four weeks have already zoomed past.
 | July 23rd, Sunday |
It was another wonderful weather day. Despite the missing supplies,
John made more progress. He secured the parallam beams and made temporary
adaptations for the missing pieces. Lally columns were cut to the individual
lengths and Keith helped John move them to their respective footings in the
basement. John and Keith also worked on moving more stone and backfill
into needed areas.

cutter, but she kept the vise from tipping off the sawhorse. |

 | July 24th, Monday |
It was a late start this morning, 7:30. We set nine of the eleven Lally
columns in place under the beams. John took a break and used the backhoe
to spread stone for a driveway approach. After we returned the backhoe, we
found out that the exterminator was coming to do the termite treatment.
Word was left on the answering machine that some of the missing materials would
arrive tomorrow. We completed setting the remaining two Lally columns
in the afternoon. John worked on putting some of the rim boards on the
foundation and installed several floor joist in the sun room area. Keith
and John sorted and stacked the remaining floor joists for easier use.
Another delay, the masons wouldn't be able to pour the floors until Saturday the
earliest.

John and Mary Ann had all eleven Lally
columns in place by the afternoon. Mary Ann did a great job holding
and steadying while John lifted and whacked the columns into alignment. |
 | July 25th, Tuesday |
John fastened more floor joists in place over the sun room area. Until
the missing parallams arrive he is limited as to what he can do. Keith and
Perry came over to help, but there wasn't much to do. Another
disappointment, the corrected order will not arrive until Wednesday. The
remaining rim boards are completed. Reinforcing wire was purchased for the
masons and clean up and sorting of the remaining material was continued.

progress. It is slow going. |

 | July 26th, Wednesday -- Dylan's Birthday |
It was good to have Stephanie and Nicholas up to celebrate Dylan's
birthday. Too bad Perry couldn't stay. The remaining parallams and
joists were delivered. Keith helped John measure, cut, and move the two
remaining sections of beams into place. We took a break from the house and
enjoyed Dylan's birthday party.

Stephanie and Nicholas were able to
watch the unloading of these supplies |
| Dylan seemed to enjoy all aspects of his
birthday party. He had a construction cake, time to play with family
members and help from Alexandria with opening gifts. |
 |
 | July 27, Thursday |
Mary Ann and John worked on more floor joists. The form of the lower
level was finally taking a real shape. There had to be sections left open
for the basement floor to be poured, but the majority of the the first level
floor joists are in place.

One piece at a time the house is
taking shape. |
 | July 28th, Friday |
Today was cloudy and the prospects of rain are increasing. John doubled
checked some measurements and had to make corrections because of errors in
alignment of the foundation walls. Two of the floor joists had to taken
out, shortened and realigned. He also worked on framing out the stairwell
opening. Mary Ann continued on the site clean up. This is probably
the neatest construction site in Kentucky.
 | July 29th, Saturday |
Today was a total wash out. There was steady and sometimes heavy rain
all day. John got some masonry supplies, but there was little that could
be done. Some time was spent on reorganization of the things in the barn.
