Coming to the Finish Line  ... Well the deadline

It is hard to believe the summer break is ending.  :-(

August 20th, Sunday

After church John got right to work.  He fine tuned the cuts on the rafters and Keith came over to help set them in place.  Mary Ann said there was NO  WAY she was getting up there.  By sunset, all the rafters were in place.  Because of the limits of scaffolding  spacing, the last five set have to be nailed at the top using the ladder.

It looked like John and Keith were working in the clouds.
Alexandria brought over a "picnic lunch"  and Marguerite climbed the scaffolding and took some pictures from the top.
This is an unique look at the bedroom area.
At sunset all the sunroom rafters were raised.  It was awesome sight.  It is nice to see a dream take shape.

August 21st, Monday

The scaffolding was relocated and assessments made of what could be done in two days.  John worked on the gable end of the sunroom.  The framing for the all the windows was another complicated task.  Mary Ann did the clean up to help ensure that John didn't turn an ankle on the scraps.  We got to the point where the sheathing was added to the gable end of the sunroom.  Mary Ann went back on her word.  She climbed the scaffolding to hold the upper pieces in place so John could nail them.  It was a long day.  We finished up about 8:30.

This wall will have a series of windows topped quarter round windows  It should be a magnificent  focal point with a fireplace in the center.
August 22nd, Tuesday

Today was dedicated to cleaning up and doing little stuff.  John and Mary Ann moved all the remaining lumber into the basement.  That was a labor intensive job with a non productive result.  We know it will be covered and out of the ferocious winds that roll through the area. The barn had to organized and cleaned as well as tools packed for the return to NJ.  It was a long day and sad because there was nothing done to further the completion of the house.  Oh well, we are set for next year.

Just boring ordinary stuff that had to be done. :-(

August 23rd, Wednesday

We are packed up and ready to go.  We accomplished a good deal, but wish we were able to do more.  It is hard leaving the grandchildren and Kentucky.  We wish that there was more time to have visited with Steph, Perry and Nicholas.  Oh well, next year will be another opportunity,  Hope to see the kids at Christmas.

Alexandria says "I Love you too" Dylan says "Bye, animal" and Brett just wants to be held. They will be upset more when it sinks in that Grandmom and Grandpop are gone for more than just the day.
