| Check these proportions in
any fashion magazine. You will find with few exceptions that the
models match this guideline! While you are there, take a look at the
various brow style women are wearing. You will find those pencil thin "thin
feminine arch" eyebrows are a thing of the past! You will also find many
GG's are wearing their brows in styles that would also be perfectly
acceptable for when you are
"DRAB"!
Trimming
Your Brows
The best but most painful way to trim your brows is by
plucking them with tweezers (ouch!). Yes I know...but remember, no pain no gain!
Generally, you pluck the underside of your brows. It is said NEVER pluck the topside
but frankly, us TG gals sometimes have a few stray hairs outside the normal brow area...so
feel free to remove strays (only!) from that area. You might have noticed that few
GG's have a single eyebrow going across their whole forehead...so you will have to get rid
of that hair between the brows!
Take one hair at a time alternating between brows!
This will reduce the probability of over plucking. Use the pencil as a
guide to check your work
as you go along so that you get the right shape.
If you have some very long hairs in your eyebrows it is a
good idea to trim them before you begin plucking. Most beauty guides tell you NEVER to
trim your eyebrows with scissors. However, keep in mind that the books were written for
GG's who don't have this problem. Removing long hairs can leave big holes in your brows!
The only solution is some judicious trimming! Use a good (stiff) eyebrow
brush to brush your brows upward. Any hairs that extend about 1/8 inch above your brow
line should be trimmed with scissors.
New Eyebrows that Nobody Notices
You say "I can't do my eyebrows, because they would
attract too much attention". Well, actually you CAN if you have patience. I
have noticed that most people are not terribly observant. If you take your time in
getting your brows into shape people will accept your changes without notice. By
this I mean make shape your brows slowly over a period of say 6 months. People who see you
regularly (day to day or even month to month) will not notice subtle changes you make in
your eyebrows. Remember, they are not expecting you to have shaped your brows.
They might look at you and even think something has changed but probably will guess
you got a haircut or lost some weigh long before they notice your new more feminine brows!
The trick is keeping up with it (you can't let them grow out then once a month do
them again!). One alternative is to do your brows permanently as you slowly change their
shape. See methods below.
Other Methods of Eyebrow Shaping
There are many alternatives to plucking. Temporary
methods include shaving, depilatories and waxing. Shaving leaves a
stubble. Depilatories and waxing are good alternatives but only if you really KNOW the
shape you want. Since both methods are better for clearing larger areas, control is
also a little tricky.
Permanent methods include Laser and Electrolysis.
Both of these methods require that you go to someone who has the skill and
equipment. It also might be a little problematic to slowly change your eyebrows (and
many of you may find it embarrassing to explain to a Laser or Electrolysis technician what
you are trying to accomplish!).
The BEST alternative I know of can be
found at Radio Shack! They sell a little home electrolysis device for about
$30 that removes hair permanently! And the best part...it WORKS!
This is an ideal solution for implementing the slow change at home. I
highly recommend the device as it is affordable, private and works very
well.
Faux Eyebrows
Afraid to do ANYTHING to your brows? Well there is one
method I used several years ago before I decided I just didn't care what anyone thought
about my brows! It involves "erasing" your brows then penciling them back
in.
A way to "erase" them is to glue them
down. Get one of those water soluble glue sticks (the ones kids use days for their
gluing projects). Wash your brow area well using a little astringent on a cotton
ball. Then wipe the glue stick carefully along your brow. Apply as much as
necessary to make the hairs stick as flat as possible to your skin. Use your finger to
smooth the glue as much as possible. Let the glue dry completely then apply
foundation (carefully as the foundation can re-liquefy the glue) and powder. Use
either an eyebrow pencil or powder to define your "new" eyebrows. You can
use an eyebrow brush to smooth the color and bring the hairs up where you want your brows
to be visible.
This technique works really well but up close you can
tell. But, at a distance of 10 to 20 feet it is hard to they are anything but your own
"natural" brows! The glue washes out easily with mild soap and water.
