Cleansing & Care

If you want to look your best...both today and years from now, do yourself a favor and develop the habit of a daily skin care regimen.  I am not just talking about the days you get to wear makeup, but ALL the days in between!
It does not have to be complicated or time consuming at all. Of course there ARE times when we want to pamper ourselves and get or give ourselves a facial (or DO go for one if you can...you won't believe it!) but that is not the norm even for most GG's!

I am also not one for all the ultra expensive salves and lotions, pastes and crèmes that the big cosmetic giants (or boutiques) want to sell you! If you think that a particular treatment is something you MUST have then look at the labels for active ingredients and find the one that has the most of that ingredient for the lowest price at least to start out!

My skin care regimen is simple I cleanse, tone (sometimes) and moisturize morning and night and additionally if I go swimming in the ocean or gulf especially. I don't use anything fancy either. I use Dove soap for cleansing, tone sometimes with one of the many products out with Alpha Hydroxy Acid (avoid alcohol based toners etc) and I moisturize with Vaseline Intensive moisturizing treatment for my body and Oil of Olay for my facial areas. Exfoliate or give yourself a facial once a week and give your skin a real treat! (that really is heaven!)  See the 7 step facial below!

The Seven Step Facial!

  • Steam - Start your facial by towel-steaming your face
  • Cleanse - Use a natural cleanser appropriate for your skin type
  • Scrub or exfoliate dead skin cells that build up on your face
  • Massage - increases blood flow and oxygen to your face scalp
  • The mask - See types below!
  • Tone - Use your favorite
  • Moisturize

I always use sun block regardless of whether I am wearing makeup or not even when I don't plan to go out (you never know!).

But it is your skin, use the products you like!  I found out a long time ago that believing something is good for you makes it work well even if it is no better than the other products! And yes, paying $35 for a 1 Oz. tube of some magical stuff sometimes makes some girls feel pampered!

My Regimen

In the morning I wash my face with dove using a flannel cloth.  I use my toner then finish with Oil of Olay lightly smoothed into my entire face and neck area with my fingers..  If I am moisturizing after a shower then I finish by moisturizing over my entire body.  It is such a yummy feeling to be sexy smooth and sweet smelling in the morning!
In the evening, it is not that much different except that most every day I am wearing at least some makeup.  Even if I am only wearing a little face powder and blush, at minimum there is a little tough eyeliner and mascara to remove before beginning my night time regimen..

My makeup remover of choice might amaze you!  It is so simple and basic many girls just don't ever think to try it!  I use Ponds Deep Cleansing Crème on my eye makeup (and face if I am wearing foundation).

Using my index and middle fingers, I rub it gently on to my eye areas massaging each for a minute or so before using cotton balls to gently lift away the cosmetics that now practically fall off you face!.  I also use my fingers to apply the cleanser to my face as well.  I use makeup remover pads to lift away the makeup from my general facial area.

From here, I just do my morning regimen allover again! Morning and night it takes me about 3 minutes to do the whole thing.  I think that is wonderful investment into my face's day and future!
