History: Yahiko's father was a samurai of the shogunate who died in the revolution. His mother was very sickly but the Yakuza offered her money so she could get better. However, when she died, they made it so Yahiko had to "pay off her debt." Yahiko basically had to do all their dirty work, like pick-pocketing, for years on end before he finally picked the wrong guys pocket: Kenshin's! This in turn led to his rescue by both Kaoru and Kenshin, and he then moved into Kaoru's dojo and became her first student since the "False Battousai Incident." It has been argued by some that Yahiko is kind of like Kaoru's and Kenshin's first son, and I really like that sentiment. So I'll say it here. Since Yahiko is raised by them after his rescue, Kenshin and Kaoru kind of become his second parents, despite the fact that he calls Kaoru some rather absurd names...
