1-800-Flowers wins the Mr Mom ad blunder of the year contest

For a Mother's Day PR stunt 1-800-flowers sent a press release today announcing "The Celebrate Mom For Who She Is Contest"

Apparently they've picked the five most prevalent Mom personalities and would like you to choose which one best describes your mom and why. What may throw you dads off your diaper tables is that Mr Mom is one of the categories.

In the contest below They even encourage to just make the story about mom, after all it's her day!

As a side note,  one of the prizes is tickets to The Martha Stewart Show  who not only had a well blogged about "Mr Mom show" but has a business link with the Flowers CEO Jim McCann. I emailed Jim through media relations to request the Mr Mom category removed from the contest. If you would like to join me in taking this out send an email to Yanique Woodall of media relations at ywoodall@1800flowers.com.  I will let you know if common sense prevails and they hire a proof reader.

In the meantime if you get flowers for your wife on Mothers Day, skip the phone call and pick them out of your backyard instead.

Yes, pick the flowers from the backyard!

I used to love 1-800-flowers. Then I sent an arrangement to a good female friend in LA (I'm in the Bay Area). She never thanked me. Strange... I finally nudged her to see if the liked the bouquet, and she said she never got it!

I got on the phone and 1-800-flowers kindly tracked down the problem. Turns out the delivery man gave the arrangement to his girlfriend. I kid you not!

Kudos to 1-800-flowers for helping solve the problem. They sent my friend another bouquet, and they credited me with a free one. Enough to make me feel good enough to use them again...

Sent my brother's wife a bouquet for a baby born. Brother sent me a photo of what they got - it was half the size of what I paid for!

I refuse to use 1-800-flowers again. The service is a great idea, but local florists take advantage and screw you in the process. Far better to talk directly to a reputable florists. Or pick flowers from your own backyard.

Hello Dads!

I've been in the process of collecting interesting stories from all dads at home. Funny stories about their kids (the funnier the better), tips and tricks for stay at home dads.

If you have a story please send it my way. I'll look it over, and if it's selected, I'll notify you. I can't promise payment, but I can promise that you'll get credit for the story if it's published, and you'll get a free copy of the book when it's published.

The stories will have to be limited to no more than 2000 characters (that's about 2 1/2 pages of text).
