PURPOSE: The purpose of Arlington Girls Softball Association is; to operate a non-profit girls fast pitch softball association. to promote girls softball in Arlington, Texas by developing good players, promoting fun and team spirit and promoting and teaching good sportsmanship to all players, coaches, parents and fans. to ensure girls have the opportunity to play softball throughout their school years, subject to limitation of facilities and size and number of teams. Girls from kindergarten through High School participate in both competitive and recreational leagues. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. The competitive teams may play in frequent tournaments and may go on to play in state and national events. The recreational teams usually just play for fun and do not normally participate in tournaments outside of league play. NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION AGSA was established in 1970 and is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The association receives its funds through registration fees, tournament proceeds and the occasional fund raiser. Participation in the fund raisers are purely voluntary and the teams involved share in the take. Typically only one fund raiser is organized annually and takes the form of a raffle. Each team involved can easily earn several hundred dollars in a couple of weeks. You ask "Where does all this money go?" Our major expenses include umpires, field rental, team insurance, trophies, jerseys for the younger players, playing equipment, ASA fees, utility bills and warehouse rental. HOSTING TOURNAMENTS Our teams may also generate extra funds for their own use by hosting a tournament and running the concession stand for AGSA. The money can be used to buy equipment, uniforms, awards, or it can be used to enter tournaments, throw team parties or even pay for next year's league fees. For more information contact our President. CERTIFIED UMPIRES AGSA uses certified umpires in all of our games. We don't pull parents out of the stands for this. We conduct an annual umpire certification class that usually begins about March 1st. We encourage our players who are at least 16 years of age to become certified as this is an excellent opportunity as a part time job. If you are a player, coach, parent or experienced umpire and are interested in working in our program, contact our Umpire In Chief. SPONSORS Sponsorships are always welcome in any amount. Sponsors may give support to AGSA and have a banner displayed on an outfield fence or display a linked banner here on our website. (details to come) Recognition on our website will be extended to all of our sponsors. BACKGROUND CHECKS For your child's protection, all managers, coaches, umpires and officers of AGSA are subjected to a criminal background check. VOLUNTEERS With exception of our umpires all other AGSA representatives (officers, managers, coaches, scorekeepers) are volunteers. We need your help as these people are overworked. There are vacancies on the Board of Directors and there is always need for additional coaches. If you could take on just one task, it would help to ease the burden of those who have the big jobs. With there being a shortage of commissioners and other officers, some of us are pulling double duty. Contact our President or an officer you would like to assist, or just contact them for more information. |
