Scott County coach Steve Helton started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Kenady Tompkins, 6-0 Jr. Kaylie Wise, 6-3 Sr. Malea Williams, 5-6 So. Emma Price, and 5-6 Jr. Kennon Owens. (5-5 Sr. Morgan DeFoor is out with an illness). Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Nick Runyon countered with 5-8 Jr. Hayley Gadd, 5-8 So. Aziah Campbell, 5-10 Jr. Elise Ellison-Coons, 5-5 So. Carley Hinshaw, and 5-8 Jr. Tanaya Cecil.
Scott County trailed 44-29 late in the third quarter but rallied to tie the score at 49-49 on a shot by Malea Williams at the buzzer. Williams was also fouled and hit the free throw after the buzzer to give the Cardinals a 50-49 victory. Scott County outscored Dunbar 19-5 in the final quarter. There were three lead changes and four ties in this game.
Scott County shot 34.5% from the field including three of 16 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 17 Dunbar turnovers. Dunbar shot 32.7% from the field including six of 17 from beyond the arc. The Lady Bulldogs connected on 11 of 21 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 22 Scott County turnovers.
Kenady Tompkins led Scott County with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Malea Williams added 13 points and 16 rebounds. Emma Price recorded nine points and four rebounds.
Elise Ellison-Coons led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 16 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and two steals. Tanaya Cecil added 12 points including two three point baskets. Hayley Gadd recorded seven points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Aziah Campbell chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and two steals. 5-5 Jr. Del’Tarria Jackson also scored seven points and recorded two steals.
