Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-7 Sr. Blaze Pacheco, 5-7 So. Taleya Todd, 5-10 So. Je’Kauri McKeithen, 5-5 Sr. Bailey Vanover, and 5-6 Jr. Madison Barnard. Garrard County coach Scott Latham countered with 5-7 Sr. Olivia Saylor, 5-6 So. Madisyn Neeley, 5-9 So. Katy Pozzuto, 5-4 So. Fran Montgomery, and 5-6 So. Brittany Butner.
Madison Central rallied in the final quarter to eke out a 52-51 come-from-behind victory over Garrard County today. There were nine lead changes and six ties in this game. Garrard County stayed in the game on the long range bombing of Madisyn Neeley (six of eight from beyond the arc) and some excellent work on the boards by Olivia Saylor and Katy Pozzuto. However turnovers (29) proved to be their downfall. This may prove to be a costly victory for the Indians as Taleya Todd left the game with a shoulder injury and was limited to 13:46 minutes of playing time today.
Madison Central shot 36% from the field including four of 17 from the three point line. The Indians connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 29 Garrard County turnovers. Garrard County shot 41.9% from the field including 10 of 22 from beyond the arc. The Golden Lions connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers.
Bailey Vanover led Madison Central with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals. Madison Barnard added eight points. Je’Kauri McKeithen recorded seven points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Blaze Pacheco also scored seven points.
Madisyn Neeley led Garrard County with 20 points including six three point baskets. 5-7 Sr. Ashlynn Clark added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Katy Pozzuto and Olivia Saylor pulled down nine and eight rebounds respectively. Fran Montgomery recorded six points and five assists.
