Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir started the following lineup: 5-9 So. DaiJia Ruffin, 5-6 So. Raven Merriweather, 6-1 Sr. Jazmin Smith, 5-6 Jr. Kristin Matula, and 5-6 Sr. Jade Tubb. Highlands coach Jaime Richey countered with 6-2 Jr. Leah Schaefer, 5-8 Sr. Sydney Watson, 5-10 Jr. Jesse Daley, 5-6 Jr. Ava Abner, and 5-6 8th grader Brianna Adler.
Highlands captured a 47-45 decision over Sacred Heart tonight. Jesse Daley hit a layup with 2:08 left in the game for what proved to be the winning basket. Sacred Heart had one last opportunity but a three point attempt at the buzzer was off target. Highlands shot 44.2% from the field including two of six from the three point line. The Bluebirds connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 26 Sacred Heart turnovers. Sacred Heart shot 37.5% from the field including six of 13 from beyond the arc. The Valkyries connected on three of seven free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 23 Highlands turnovers.
Jesse Daley led Highlands with 12 points and nine rebounds. Leah Schaefer added 11 points and six rebounds. Brianna Adler chipped in with nine points.
Raven Merriweather led Sacred Heart with 11 points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals. 5-9 Sr. Sandy Gahafer added eight points. DaiJia Ruffin and Jade Tubb each recorded seven points and Ruffin pulled down 10 rebounds.
