Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Ashli Mayes, 5-11 Sr. Chelsea Rivers, 5-10 Sr. Chelsea Brown, 5-6 So. Raven Timmons, and 5-8 Sr. Lacinda Hack. Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 5-9 Jr. Taylor Mynear, 5-7 Jr. Emily Justice, 6-3 Sr. Shomari Kendrick, 5-7 Sr. Mackenzie Graham, and 5-3 Sr. Jariana Gillespie.
Franklin County defeated Lafayette 63-52 tonight. The first half proved disasterous for Lafayette as they trailed 33-20 at halftime chiefly as a result of only shooting 25.9% from the field. Lafayette played even with Franklin County in the second half but the Lady Flyers put together two consistent halves to earn an impressive opening game win.
Franklin County shot 45.8% from the field including one of three from the three point line. The Lady Flyers connected on 18 of 21 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 18 Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 34.5% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc. The Lady Generals connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 19 Franklin County turnovers.
Ashli Mayes led Franklin County with 20 points and eight rebounds. Chelsea Rivers added 16 points.
Mackenzie Graham led Lafayette with 12 points. Shomari Kendrick added 10 points and six rebounds. Jariana Gillespie recorded eight points, four rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
