Family Sermons -- A Sermon Site of Dr. Harold L. White

Here are some of the sermons on Family Sermons:

 What Has Happened? - 1 Samuel 2:12-17
Many parents are so busy making a living that they spend little time in making a home.
Many parents work 50-60 hours a week.
Some parents must work two jobs to make ends meet.
Many parents are active in their hobbies, their sports, or their clubs.
Some may be so busy in their church.
Nothing should keep us away from the time our children need us.
Nothing should bless us more than our family.
Parents must realize that the most important responsibility is to bring up their children in the nurture
and admonition of the Lord. ...

 A Mother's Task - 2 Timothy 7:1-7
Anytime we honor our mothers is special.
Mothers tend to be taken for granted except on the second Sunday in May.
And that is not very appropriate considering the contributions they make to our lives.
It is said that by the time a youngster reaches age 18, the mother has had to handle some 18,000 hours
of child-generated housework -- work that would not have been necessary had there been no child.
Being a mother is a difficult job. ...

Help For Fathers - Genesis 5:21
Fortunate indeed is the family and the children who have the privilege of growing up
to maturity under the influence of one who personifies integrity and goodness
and all those graces of character that God wants to see nourished and flourishing.
God will help you to be a good father.
As a father, you are potentially the child's finest teacher about God. ...

Stop The Blame Game! - Genesis 3:12
The blame game is a popular game and it is a destructive game.
It never heals -- it always hurts!
 It never repairs relationships.
 It only destroys relationships.
It never unites -- it only divides.
It never builds -- it always tears apart.
 It never solves a problem.
 It only compounds the problem.
Jesus came to stop the blame game. ...

 Building A Home

Anyone can build a house, and anyone can fill that house with beautiful things, but the Bible describes
something far more important, far more valuable than any house.
God's word tells us how to build a home.

What kind of society have we developed for our children and grandchildren?
We have been on a downward spiral for years.
And recent events in our schools and in our society have caused us to question our communities and our homes.
For instance: "How well do you know your child?"
How are you building your home?
God's Word teaches us how to build in Proverbs 24:1-4

Sermon: Christ Will Help The Home
I have the best news for husbands and wives and for moms and dads.
I have the best news for every boy and girl here.
I know Someone who can help you.
I know Someone who can help your family.
His name is Jesus!
How does Christ help the home?
What does Christianity have to contribute to the modern-day family in the space age?
What difference can Jesus make to your family life?
I could never touch the depths to what Christ can do, but I will express a thought or two. ...

Will Our Children Have Faith? - Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Children watch their parents!
Children are extremely perceptive, and they quickly recognize whether there is a connection between
their parent's faith and the way they live.
Unfortunately, the failure of many Christian parents to effectively model their faith leads some children
to reject Christianity.
The children have seen a distorted version of Christianity.
They have never been exposed to the real thing. ...

Sermon: Getting Along With Parents
Regardless of how you would rate your parents on a scale from one to ten, your parents play a very important role
in the way you view yourself.
Parenting is not easy.
Parenting is scary and difficult.
But if you would like to get along better with your parents, let me share a few ideas why I think parents act
the way they do.

Nobody sent your parents to school to study parenting.
You are probably their first family.
Sure, they were raised in a family, but there is a major difference between being a kid in a family
and being a dad or mom.

It took me over 23 years to prepare for the ministry.
I did not have one single class on parenting.
Most of us, as parents, learn by trial and error.
The first child comes along and we are very conscientious.
We have learned a lot.
Then, the second one comes along, and the second one has the gall to be different.
Every parent is in the process of being a parent. ...

Sermon: Don't Blame Your Parents
The word of the Lord came to me again: 'What do you mean by repeating this proverb... the fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and children's teeth are set on edge' ?
As I live, says the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel
."
(Ezekiel 18: 1-4)

Ezekiel is saying to his generation and to ours, the present is your responsibility.
He could see that his generation's fixation on the past and its sins drew their attention away from the present
and its opportunities.
His generation figured they were stuck with the way things were in their lives because it was a punishment
for the way their fathers had lived.
Because their fathers had eaten sour grapes, and their teeth were set on edge.
Ezekiel will have none of this.

The past shapes the present, but it does not determine the present.
The past presents the agenda for the present, but it doesn't decide what is going to happen to it.
You're not responsible for the way things are in this world.
You are responsible for what you do with the way things are.
If you are not happy, it's not because of the life that has been given to you.
It's because of what you've done with the life that has been given to you.
That is what Ezekiel is saying.

The important question is: What are you going to do now with the present
that is given you? ...
