To get the Onion Knight
After you've gotten the airship, go to the Baaj Temple (a hidden area). There you need to fight Geosgaeno for the 2nd time (remember the big monster Tidus had to fight - and eventually escape from - just after he arrived on Spira? It's him again). After you've finished with him, search around in the lake and you'll find a treasure chest with the Onion Knight inside (it won't be there if you've not defeated Geosgaeno yet. Also, you may not be able to see the chest, just search the whole lake, it's not very big). More details on the hidden areas here.
To get first power up item: Venus Crest
After you can leave for the Thunder Plains from Guadosalam, go back to the Farplane in Guadosalam and you'll find the Venus Crest in a treasure chest to the left.
To get second power up item: Venus Sigil
To get the Venus Sigil you have to evade lightning 200 times continously at the Thunder Plains. It sounds much easier than it actually is ^_~ (more details about avoiding lightning here).
