Final Fantasy Marathon

By Jinx and RyThom

There comes a point in every gamers life in which they pick up and play a role playing game (RPG).  Odds are if you are a gamer of any type, you know that an RPG is a game where you (usually) take on the persona of someone else in a time of dire need.  Your task is to go about the world and solve the problem, and bring great glory to yourself and your race.  You do this by using magic and buying weapons and armor and leveling up.  It can be in any genera , fantasy or cyber punk, future or past.

The best ever series of RPG's to date is the Final Fantasy series.  With already 15 titles state-side and at least 3 more in the works, it is the longest running series of RPG's.  Our journey will take us through the beginning saga, Final Fantasy on NES, and will finish with Final Fantasy 10 on the Playstation 2.  Some may call us crazy, some may call us hero's, but in all reality, we are just college kids trying to make a mark on the world.

Following is a brief overview of the games and what each featured.  At the bottom of the page, you will find the link to our live journal, where we will keep everyone updated on the low down and dirty info on our quest.  If you have any comments, further reviews of the games, or just want to talk to one of us you can reach us at this address.

Keep checking back on this page for updates, there are bound to be a lot of them.

Overview:

Final Fantasy

The first game in the FF saga, Final Fantasy introduced us to a world thrown in darkness.  For 2000 years the orbs of the 4 elements have been blackened by an evil darkness, and it is your job to kill the evil creatures holding the orbs for power.

When you start out, you can pick between a Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, Red mage, White mage, or a Black mage.  Half way through the game the characters advance into a tougher hero.  You progress through levels like ever other RPG, you kill baddies.  From bad guys, you get experience, from this you gain levels, spells, and stats.

Final Fantasy II & III

Can you understand any of that?  No?  Neither can we. On to the next game!

Final Fantasy IV

Also known as Final Fantasy II in North American, FFIV was the first installment of the series on the Super Nintendo.  Combining the classic console RPG gameplay introduced in the original NES games with the graphical ability of the SNES and great story telling, FFIV took the series to the new plot based level it's still at today.  The story followed the trials and tribulations of the Dark Knight, Cecil.  After losing his position as Captain of the Red Wings, he finds himself thrown into a race to retrieve all the magic crystals of the world before Goblez (the big bad guy) does.  Along the way, Cecil meets up with new characters that will join and leave the party each with their own deep back story and special abilities making for both a fun and cinematic experience.  Even with the pizzazz of the recent PlayStation games, fans still keep coming back to Final Fantasy IV for a great game.
