RAINEY, JAMES: The only evidence of this soldier’s service are prisoner of war papers that show that he was captured 1 Dec 1864 at Lewisburg, AR.  Listed as a Private, Co G.  He was then sent to the prison at Little Rock where he was held until he was paroled on 7 Feb 1865.  He is described in prison records as having fair complexion, dark hair, blue eyes and 5’ 9” in height.

RAMSEY, ANDY: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: ?  His enlistment data is not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co E, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Mississippi County.

RAMSEY, GEORGE WASHINGTON: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co A 2 May 1863 in Greene County, AR.  Detailed to chief commissary as herdsman 1 Aug 1863.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865. Residence: Bollinger County.

RAMSEY, WILLIAM: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 26.  His enlistment data is not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co A, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Bollinger County.

RANDOL, ALBERT GALE: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co C 12 Nov 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $140 and horse equipment at $10.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).  Residence: Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

RANDOL, CARSON WHITNEY: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 17. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $100 and horse equipment at $10.  Transferred to Co C 1 Nov 1862.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).  According to James Davis, Randol Family Records, in information that has yet to be verified, he was taken prisoner at a place and date unknown, charged with being a spy, and executed by Federal troops 23 Feb 1864. Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

RANDOL, EDWARD GOODE: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 21. Enlisted as Private in Co E 1 Aug 1863 at location not of record.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Is likely the same person who died in 1869 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mississippi Co., MO.

RANDOL, JAMES HARVEY: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $125.  Appointed 4th Corporal 26 Sep 1862.  Transferred to Co K and elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant 6 Dec 1862.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 26 Jul 1863. Captured by the enemy while at home on furlough in Cape Girardeau Co, MO 1 Oct 1863.  He was charged and tried before Federal military court for violation of oath of allegiance. Transported to St. Louis, MO, to prison.  No disposition of trial is of record.  (No Further Record). Prison records list him as 28, standing 5’ 6”, with black eyes and dark hair. Residence: Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

RANDOL, JOHN PEIRPONT: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division). Age: 27. Enlisted as Private in Co C 15 May 1863 in Wayne County.  Severely wounded and apparently disabled at Bayou Fourche, AR 10 Sep 1863.  (No Further Record). Lived and died in LA post-war.  Residence: Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

RANDOL, RUDOLPH: Age: ?  Enlisted as Private in Co K 25 May 1863 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 25 Jul 1863.  (No Further Record).

RANDOL, WILLIAM J.: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co B 19 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $115 and horse equipment at $5.  Present Dec 1863.  Paroled at Wittsburg, AR 25 May 1865 as a member of Co A.

RATHBURN, JOSEPH: Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co A 28 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Bollinger County.

RATHERS, JOHN: Age; 25. Enlisted as Private in Co C 15 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Deserted 1 Oct 1862.

RATHERS, NATHANIEL: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co E 10 Oct 1862 in Mississippi County.  Horse appraised at $120.  Deserted 6 Apr 1863.

REEVES, WESLEY: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co C 12 Oct 1862 in Wayne County.  Present Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

RENFROE, JOSEPH W.: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co B 4 Oct 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Deserted 20 Jul 1863.

REVELL, BENJAMIN F.: Age: 33. Enlisted as Private in Co A 21 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Detailed as hospital nurse at Wittsburg, AR 1 Jul 1863. Captured at Wittsburg, AR 28 Aug 1863.  Died of disease at Alton, IL military prison 23 Dec 1863 and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at that locale.

REVELL, JAMES K. P.: (Served in the Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division). Age: 29. Enlisted as Private in Co A 21 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Deserted 30 Sep 1862. According to Eakin, Missouri Prisoners of War, n.p., he was taken prisoner in Bollinger Co, MO, 21 Mar 1863 and transferred to prison in St. Louis, MO, where he was released after taking the oath of allegiance and posting a bond.

REVELL, JOSEPH: Age: 21. Enlisted as Private in Co A 21 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Reported as sick at Wittsburg, AR 15 Jul 1863.  Deserted __ Nov 1863.

REVELL, NOAH: Age: ? Enlisted as Private in Co G 10 May 1863 at Wittsburg, AR.  He was detailed and left in camp at Wittsburg, AR 26 Jul 1863.  Transferred to Co A at date not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co B, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Bollinger County.

REVELL, THOMAS JEFFERSON: Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co A 21 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Deserted 10 Sep 1862. (No Further Record) In Eakin, Missouri Prisoners of War, n.p., he was captured in Bollinger  Co, MO, 24 Mar 1863, transported to St. Louis, MO, and thence to Alton, IL, military prison.  He was then forwarded to City Point, VA for exchange. Died at some point after exchange as he is buried in the Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.

REVELL, ROBERT D.: His enlistment data is not of record.  Taken prisoner at Wittsburg, AR, 28 Aug 1863 and transported to Alton, IL, military prison.  He died of disease at that prison on 22 Dec 1863.

REYNOLDS, WILLIAM: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co A 17 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Deserted 27 Jan 1863.  He was taken prisoner in Bollinger Co, MO, on either 1 or 8 Mar 1863, and imprisoned at Alton, IL, military prison, according to Eakin, Missouri Prisoners of War, n.p.  This soldier was apparently exchanged in Virginia, for he enlisted as a private in Capt. Charles H. Woodson’s company of Missouri cavalry in Richmond on 1 Jul 1863 and last reported present on 31 Aug 1863.  Final disposition is unknown.  Woodson’s company was the only Missouri Confederate unit to serve in Virginia.  Residence:  Bollinger County.

RICHARDS, JACOB S.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Sergeant, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 26. Enlisted as Private in Co K 18 Oct 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Wounded in action and captured at Bayou Fourche, AR, near Little Rock, 10 Sep 1863.  Imprisoned at Little Rock prison.  Forwarded to Gratiot Street Military Prison, St. Louis, MO where he died of chronic diarrhea 14 Mar 1864.  He is buried in Grave 9817 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

RICHARDS, JAMES W.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 21. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $5.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 1 Aug 1863 but returned to command.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County. Died 24 Aug 1881 and buried in Mogler Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co, MO.

RICHARDS, JOHN H.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Corporal, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co A 24 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Horse appraised at $130 and horse equipment at $10.  Transferred to Co K 6 Dec 1862.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865 as Private, Co B.  Residence: Bollinger County.

RICHARDS, MILES G.: Age: ?  Enlisted as Private in Co K 21 May 1863 at location not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co B, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1863.  Residence: Bollinger County. His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO. Died 29 Aug 1922 and is buried at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery, Madison Co, MO.

RICHARDS, WILLIAM: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co A 19 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Horse appraised at $80 and horse equipment at $3.  Left sick near Jacksonport, AR 10 Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

RILEY, WILLIAM: Age: 22. He was a graduate of the Kentucky Military Institute.  Previously served as 2nd Lieutenant in 1st Missouri Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., but resigned his commission.  Enlisted as Private in Co I 23 Oct 1862.  Horse appraised at $140 and horse equipment at $25.  Promoted from the ranks to Junior 2nd Lieutenant 15 Feb 1863.  Promoted to 1st Lieutenant 10 Jun 1863. Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865 as 1st Lieutenant commanding Co C. Goodspeed’s History of Southeast Missouri, p. 909, has his biography, as does the Missouri volume of Confederate Military History, Vol. IX, pp. 392-393..  Residence: New Madrid County. Died 12 Oct 1905 and buried in the Riley Cemetery, New Madrid Co, MO.

ROBBINS, EDLY H.: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co B 26 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $135 and horse equipment at $10.  Transferred to Co F 4 Oct 1862.  Elected 2nd Lieutenant, Co G, 10 Oct 1862.  Present Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

ROBBINS, JOSIAH Y.: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co G 26 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant 8 Oct 1862.  Deserted 25 Oct 1862.

ROBBINS, THOMAS A.: Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co B 24 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $20.  Transferred to Co G 4 Oct 1862.  Appointed 1st Corporal 8 Oct 1862. Taken prisoner on scout near Van Buren, MO 28 Dec 1862.  Escaped from Small Pox Hospital at St. Louis, MO, 4 Apr 1863 and returned to command 30 Apr 1863.  Deserted 10 Aug 1863.

ROBERTS, DAVID P.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co B 15 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co F 5 Oct 1862. Deserted 4 Aug 1863.  A brief biographical sketch may be found in Mamie Yeary, Reminiscences of the Boys in Gray, p. 645, which indicates that he was wounded on two occasions, and that he was born at Cape Girardeau, MO, 30 Apr 1843

ROBERTS, WILLIAM: Age: ?. His enlistment data is not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co K, with furloughed and detailed men at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Boone County. Probably recruited or conscripted during the Price Raid of 1864.

ROBERTS, WILLIAM L.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co E 30 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Horse appraised at $140 and horse equipment at $5.  Died of cause not of record at Batesville, AR hospital 11 Mar 1863.

ROBERTSON, JOHN F.: Age: 35. Enlisted as Private in Co A 19 Aug 1862 in Bollinger County.  Present Dec 1863. Paroled as Private, Co A, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865, under the name John F. Robinson. Residence: Bollinger County.

ROBERTSON, RICHARD: Private. Enlistment data not found.  Ordered to report back to regiment from Col. Robert R. Lawther’s Temporary Regiment of dismounted men on 5 Sep 1863. (No Further Record)

ROBINSON, JESSE: Age: 20.  His enlistment data is not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co B, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Bollinger County.  Killed when ran over by a train in Cape Girardeau, MO, in Oct (?) 1901.  Buried at Fairmount Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, MO.

ROBINSON, JOHN M.: Age: ?  Enlistment data is not of record.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry at Searcy, AR, Jul 1863. Paroled as Private, Co B, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865. Residence: Bollinger County.

ROBINSON, MICHAEL: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co G 1 Nov 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).  Died 27 Feb 1900 and is buried in the Trinity Church Cemetery, Daisy, MO.  Residence:  Cape Girardeau County.

RODNEY, LOUIS LORIMIER: Age: 20. Left Princeton College to return home and enlist in the army. Enlisted as Private in Co B 13 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $20.  Transferred to Co F 5 Oct 1862.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County. Died 26 Jul 1907 and is buried at Old Lorimier Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, MO.

ROGERS, CALVIN: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co H 10 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $5.  Absent on sick furlough of 60 days from 10 Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

ROHAN, THOMAS J.: Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co E 18 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Detailed as regimental teamster.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Mississippi County.

ROMINE, JOSEPH:  Enlistment data not of record.  Prisoner of war record indicates that he was a Private in Co I that surrendered at New Madrid on 30 Nov 1864 and was released upon taking the oath of allegiance the same day.

ROSE, ALBERT: Age: 19. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Deserted 5 Dec 1862.

ROSS, JAMES A.: Age: 27. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $100 and horse equipment at $10.  Left sick in Oil Trough Bottom, AR 20 Jul 1863.  Returned to command.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County. Died 5 Jun 1917 and buried at Apple Creek Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co, MO.

ROSS, JOHN A.: Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $115 and horse equipment at $10.  Present Feb 1863.  (No Further Record).

ROSS, ROBERT:  Enlistment data not of record.  Prisoner of war record indicates that he was a Private in Co I that surrendered at New Madrid on 30 Nov 1864 and was released upon taking the oath of allegiance the same day.

ROSS, ZENAS N.: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $8.  Absent with sick brother in Oil Trough Bottom, AR 24 Jul 1863.  (No Further Record). Died 3 May 1893 and is buried in Apple Creek Cemetery, Cape Girardeau County, MO.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

ROUNCEVILLE, A. A.:  No enlistment data.  Paroled as a Private, Co G, at Shreveport, LA on 7 Jun 1865.  Residence:  Mississippi County.

ROW, JACOB: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co A 2 May 1863 in Greene County, AR. Captured in Washington Co, AR 6 Nov 1864, probably sick or wounded.  Paroled at Little Rock, AR 7 May 1865.  Described as having dark complexion and hair, black eyes, and 5’ 8” in height. He attended a United Confederate Veterans convention in 1911 and gave his address as Stuart, OK.

RUCKER, J. L.: Age: ?  Enlistment data is not of record.  Private, Co B. Captured at Helena, AR 4 Jul 1863.  Exchanged at Ft. Delaware, DE 27 Feb 1865.  (No Further Record).

RUMFEL, COLUMBUS: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co H 18 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Horse appraised at $135 and horse equipment at $5.  Deserted 27 Jul 1863.

RUSHING, RICHARD B.: Age: 32. Enlisted as Private in Co B 12 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $130 and horse equipment at $5. Paroled as Private, Co F, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

RUSSELL, GABRIEL D.: Age: 22.  Enlisted as Private in Co E 20 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County.  Taken prisoner while on furlough __ Dec 1862.  (No Further Record).

RUSSELL, J. D.: No record. Appears as a member of the regiment on an undated list of prisoners of war sent to Vicksburg by Colonel D. C. Anthony, provost marshal of Memphis, TN on 21 Nov 1862.

RUSSELL, ROBERT R.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Sergeant, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co B 19 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $12.  Elected 1st Lieutenant 13 Sep 1862.  Wounded in action at Sullivan Station, MO 3 Oct 1864. Captured by the enemy in Madison Co, MO 9 Oct 1864.  Sent from St. Louis, MO to Johnson's Island, OH for exchange 12 Nov 1864.  (No Further Record).  According to an article in the Collage of Cape County, Vol. 16, No. 2 (September 1996), p. 28, he accompanied Gen. Joseph O. Shelby to Mexico at the conclusion of the war and was never heard from again.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

RUTHERFORD, JAMES: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co H 18 Oct 1862 in Scott County.  Deserted 15 Dec 1862.
