ICE, JESSE: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co E 16 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Died of accidental gunshot wound 10 Oct 1862.

INMAN, SAMUEL: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co I 20 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Horse appraised at $30 and horse equipment at $1. He was detailed to drive wagon for commissary department 24 Jul - 30 Sep 1863.  Paroled with detached troops at Alexandria, LA 3 Jun 1865.

IVEY, BENJAMIN W.: Age:?  Enlisted as Private in Co I 7 Mar 1863 at location not of record.  Reported as absent sick since 1 Aug 1863.  Name canceled on rolls. 

JACKSON, FRANCIS M.: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co F 30 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).

JACKSON, HENRY: Age: 36.  Enlisted as Private in Co I 20 Oct 1862 in New Madrid County.  Deserted 27 Dec 1862.

JAMES, GEORGE: Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co E 26 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Deserted while on sick furlough Dec 1862.

JANES, HENRY: Age: 23. Enlisted as Private in Co E 1 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County.  Deserted 20 Oct 1862.

JEFFERS, WILLIAM LAFAYETTE: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Captain/Lieutenant Colonel, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 34. He was formerly a Private, Co F, 1st Regiment of Dragoons, U. S. Army, 1846-1852. Saw considerable service in the Mexican War. Captain, Co A (Swamp Rangers) and Lieutenant Colonel of 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division, Missouri State Guard.  Resigned his commission 15 Sep 1861, apparently due to a dispute with Brigadier General M. Jeff Thompson, the Division commander.  Organized an independent cavalry company for Confederate service at New Madrid on 16 Apr 1862 that was eventually attached to Matlock’s AR Cavalry Regiment.  Resigned his commission 8 Jul 1862 when the regiment was dismounted and returned to MO to recruit.  Elected Lieutenant Colonel, Jeffers' MO Cavalry Battalion 4 Oct 1862.  Elected Col, 8th Mo Cavalry Regiment 11 Dec 1862.  Described by brigade commanders Col. Joseph C. Porter and Brig. Gen. John C. Clark, Jr., as the “gallant Jeffers,” as a result of his brave conduct. He commanded Marmaduke's MO Cavalry Brigade during the Little Rock Campaign of 1863. Granted a leave of absence of thirty days effective 27 Nov 1863. Taken prisoner of war at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864 and transported to St. Louis, MO.  Transferred from St. Louis, MO to Johnson's Island Prison, OH 3 Nov 1864.  Paroled from Johnson's Island 25 Jul 1865.  His amnesty petition may be found in Bartels, Missouri Amnesty. Served as the commander of the Col. Solomon G. Kitchen Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Dexter, MO, during 1896-1900. An obituary is in the Missouri Cash-Book, Jackson, MO 19 Feb 1903. He is buried in the City Cemetery at Jackson, MO, near where a large monument to his memory, dedicated in September 1908, stands at the cemetery entrance.  See James E. JENKINS, AMBROSE DAVID: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co B 17 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $15. Appointed 3rd Sergeant 13 Sep 1862.  Promoted to 4th Sergeant 6 Dec 1862.  Taken prisoner on scout Jan 1863, probably on the raid to Hartville, MO.  Died of "inflammation of the lungs" at Gratiot Military Prison, St. Louis, MO 14 Apr 1863 and is buried in Grave 5242, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

JENKINS, EDWARD FRANCIS: Age: 26. Enlisted as Private in Co B 12 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co F 5 Oct 1862.  Appointed 2nd Corporal 5 Oct 1862.  Promoted to 1st Corporal at date not of record.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865 as Private.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County. His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO. He was a charter member, and adjutant, of the Captain S. S. Harris Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Jackson, MO in 1896. A biography appears at p. 769 of Goodspeed’s History of Southeast Missouri, and his obituary is in the Missouri Cash-Book, Jackson, MO, 8 January 1925. Buried in the City Cemetery at Jackson, MO. Brother of James Richard, Luther Elias and William F. Jenkins.

JENKINS, JAMES RICHARD: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co B 12 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co F 5 Oct 1862.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County. His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO.  He was a charter member of the Captain S. S. Harris Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Jackson, MO, in 1896.  Died 13 Mar 1920 at Jackson, MO.  A poem dedicated to his memory by his brother Luther E. Jenkins appears in the Missouri Cash-Book, Jackson, MO., 25 Mar 1920.  See final entry for Edward Francis Jenkins.

JENKINS, JOHN HAMPTON: Age: 21. Enlisted as Private in Co I 17 Aug 1862 in New Madrid County.  Appointed 4th Corporal 2 Dec 1862.  Present Apr 1863.  (No Further Record).  Residence: Stoddard County.

JENKINS, LUTHER ELIAS: (Served in Missouri State Guard as 1st Lt, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co K 15 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co F 1 Mar 1863.  Paroled as Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865. Residence: Cape Girardeau County. Served as adjutant of the Col. Aden Lowe Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Fredericktown, MO, in 1896. His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO.  Biographical information may be found in “Luther E. Jenkins,” Confederate Veteran, Vol. 39 (1931). p. 424. JENKINS, WILLIAM F.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Ensign, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co B 12 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Appointed 2nd Sergeant 13 Sep 1862.  Transferred to Co F at date not of record.  Elected 1st Lieutenant 4 Oct 1862. Granted disability leave of absence for 14 days, effective 22 Sep 1863. Paroled as 1st Lieutenant, commanding Co F, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865. Residence: Cape Girardeau County.  He died 25 Oct 1871 and is buried at Old Bethel Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co, MO.  See final entry for Edward Francis Jenkins.

JENKINS, WILLIAM T.: Age: 32. Enlisted as Private in Co B 12 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $50 and horse equipment at $8.  Deserted 3 Mar 1863.

JESTER, WILLIAM: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 27. Enlisted as Private in Co I 14 Aug 1862 in New Madrid County. Horse appraised at $60.  Paroled at Wittsburg, AR 25 May 1865.

JOHNSON, DAVID: Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co C 2 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $80 and horse equipment at $5. Left sick or wounded at hospital in Little Rock, AR and taken prisoner 10 Sep 1863.  Paroled from Camp Morton, IN prison 22 May 1865.  Residence: Madison County.  Died January 15, 1914; he is buried at Cave Springs Cemetery, Oregon County, MO.

JOHNSON, ELISHA S.: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co C 20 Oct 1862 in Wayne County.  Deserted 2 May 1863.

JOHNSON, JAMES B.: Age: 19. Enlisted as Private in Co K 15 Oct 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $15.  Present Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

JOHNSON, JOSEPH “HIPPO”: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 1st Division). Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co C 2 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $75 and horse equipment at $10. Deserted 2 May 1863.  Returned to command. Paroled at Jacksonport, AR, May 1865. Physical description was as follows: 5 ft.8 in, dark hair, hazel eyes, and dark complexion.   Residence: Madison County. His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO. Died 7 Aug 1921 and is buried at Cave Springs Cemetery, Oregon Co, MO.

JOHNSON, WILLIAM: Age: 26. Enlisted as Private in Co C 2 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $140 and horse equipment at $5.  Present Dec 1863.  Paroled at Galveston, TX 24 Jul 1865.  Residence: Madison County.

JOHNSON, WILSON: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Sergeant, 2nd Cavalry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co C 2 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $60 and horse equipment at $2.  Wounded in action (side) at Hartville, MO 11 Jan 1863.  Died of wound 12 Jan 1863 near Batesville, AR.  Residence: Madison County.

JONES, CALEB H.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co E 1 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County. Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $20.  Present Aug 1863.  (No Further Record).

JONES, JAMES W.: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co C 12 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Deserted 12 Oct 1862.

JONES, JOHN: Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co C 12 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Transferred to Co K 6 Dec 1862.  Deserted 3 Jul 1863 near Wittsburg, AR.

JONES, SILAS F.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 20. Enlisted as Private in Co I 14 Aug 1862 in New Madrid County.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 1 Aug 1863.  Rejoined command.  Paroled as Private, Co C, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Stoddard County.  He was a brother of Wiley Jones.

JONES, WILEY: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co I 14 Aug 1862 in New Madrid County.  "Absent sick since August 1, 1863" is noted on August muster roll.  (No Further Record).  Residence: Stoddard County.  He was a brother of Silas F. Jones.

JORDAN, JEFFERSON: Age: 26. Enlisted as Private in Co C 12 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Deserted 12 Oct 1862.

JUDEN, CHARLES G.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division). Age: 25. No record.  Appears on the membership list of the Captain. S. S. Harris Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Jackson, MO, in 1896, and is identified as a former member of Jeffers’ Regiment.  According to Eakin, Missouri Prisoners of War, n.p., he was captured in Stoddard County, MO, on 17 Jan 1863. He was imprisoned in Gratiot Prison, St. Louis, MO., and took an oath and gave bond on 7 Mar 1863. He may have served only in the Missouri State Guard.
