Alley Cat

Oreo

Oreo grew up to be a fat cat, weighing more than 12 pounds. She has long black and white hair, and she even has what looks like a little goatee. She always has the sweetest, most innocent look on her face. Oreo is sometimes called Fat Cat because she eats continuously, although never very much at any one time. If she is not watched carefully she will top off her snack with toilet water. Yuk!

Ever wonder where the phrase "scaredy cat" came from? Oreo is afraid of everything -- the crinkling sound of a paper bag is something many cats like. Not Oreo. She is even afraid of her own shadow. Oreo must investigate any new item in the house or anything that has been moved from one spot to another. Although her natural curiosity makes her check things out, she uses extreme caution -- ready to take off running in a split second should something frighten her.

Oreo is such a good kitty. She always uses her scratching posts and she never gets on the kitchen counter. Kitty Sister Smudge should take lessons from Oreo.

Oreo, or Scaredy Cat, is no where to be found when guests come over. A few family members do see her on occasion, but most people never see her. She has a few very good hiding places, which make her feel safe from people she doesn't know.

Oreo purrs a lot, and what a comforting sound that is. She is also referred to as Cry Baby and Chatty Cathy because every time Mimi goes towards the kitchen she starts meowing in her soft sweet voice. Even if she just makes eye contact with Mimi, that is all it takes to start a kitty conversation.

There is always time for a catnap. To be afraid of so many things, Oreo can settle down for a nap and sleep in quite a vulnerable position. She loves to lay on her back, belly up, with her four feet sprawled out in every direction.

Oreo is not as rambunctious as Smudge is. When I get really wound up and am running through the house, Oreo tries to avoid the chase that is inevitable if we meet face to face by getting in a dining room chair and hiding under the tablecloth.

It is very difficult to get a good picture of Oreo. She is the most camera shy pet Mimi has ever had. I think it's because the flash scares her. Once she realizes that the camera is about to be clicked, she leaves as quickly as her feet will let her.
