"Days Gone By"

Friends we were, And swore we would always be
But the hands of fate have taken their toll
I know not of all the reasons, You may know of none

Days of joyous laughter, Sharing of a tear of the past
The moving of the souls, The passion of the hearts
Destroyed by the ruthlessness of the spoken word

Accusations of the one who was quiet
Possessive approach of the other
A sad thing when all is considered
But then, Consideration was set free
As the songbird grew silent

Time is now spent on park benches, Collar turned against the wind
The lone tear finds the bearded chin
Could it be the briskness of the breeze again?
Yes of course, Winter is the end of it all. Is it not?

This is not a new thing, This changing of seasons
The attempt at simple beauty fell short here it seems
Detours of the heart are frequent upon the human highway
She sits warm and content with her new friends

Finding his feet, Sadness overwhelms him
With a deep breath, He wonders why
It shall go unanswered, Simply days gone by.
