GUILD ACTIVITIES

Select the page of activities you want to view from the drop down list in the sidebar.
Then, click any link in the sidebar for more information about each activity.

IMPORTANT:

One of our guild shops recently received a warning from Neopets about holding contests. As a result the Guild Council has decided that some changes are necessary to safeguard the guild. As part of these changes, we are making every effort to remove the term "contest" from all our...well, contests. So, all contests are being renamed to avoid the term contest and the contest page has been renamed the "Activities" page. Contests will mostly be referred to by their names or by using the term "Activity". Thanks for understanding!

Please note: You may only take part in these activities from one account, even if you have multiple accounts that are members of the guild.

Special Activities
Don't miss your chance to participate in these activities, which are only here for a limited time!

Build the Guild

For those of you who missed the excitement, as part of our one year anniversary celebration back in July 2003 we decided to build the Guild Headquarters in the Grand Librarian's (cute_chic4eva) account. Over the last year and a half, we invited guild members to design the rooms and gardens in Guild Headquarters (with a limit of 25,000 np in value for each room). A panel of judges, including one guest judge for any shop being built, determined which design would be used for the specified areas.

The designers of the chosen rooms each received a 50,000 np gift certificate for use in any of the guild shops.

Round 15 designs chosen were:

Card Shop Activity

As this month it is the Card and Stamp Shop's turn to run the monthly activity, we thought it would be a nice idea to give our card and stamp collecting members an opportunity to see what an (almost) complete stamp page or a very full Neodeck looks like.

For this reason we would like to find the people in the guild with the largest stamp and card collections and link to their pages from our shop. It always is a great help to be able to see what that expensive card looks like once it has been placed in the Neodeck, or to see whether it is really worth putting all those Neopoints in trying to complete that page of stamps.

To enter, please send a neomail to booklovers_cardshop with the subject line "The Greatest Album" and telling us which stamp page or Neodeck you would like to enter. Remember, don't mention the word "contest" anywhere in your neomail.

If you are entering your Neodeck, it would be really nice if you could tell us how many different cards you have in there, that way we would only have to count the top contenders. Also please tell us if your Neodeck has a special theme – we are planning to link to several Neodecks, and if there are several of similar size and makeup, it would be nice to have some themed ones with unusual cards instead. To enter a page from your stamp album (you can enter your pages of coins, coconuts, and seashells too) we ask that you have at least 10 items on that page. We also ask you only to enter if you agree to us linking to your album or page from the card shop – that is the main point of the activity, after all!

You have until the 24th of July to enter your album, then we will judge the entries. The owners of "the greatest albums" will receive prizes. So get to collecting!

Time is up, so here are the results!

We looked at the stamp albums and Neodecks of everybody that entered our greatest album activity.

The greatest Neodecks in this guild are those owned by

rjmc8888 with 273 cards (out of 356)
and
agravegal with 230 cards

Buzz and CK have severe doubts that they will be able to find a card for your prize!

For the stamp album we had entries for the following pages:

Mystery island: juliac240, mickeymab and trickenzie with 13 stamps each
Virtupets: trickenzie with 19 stamps
Tyrannia: nickeeeee69 with 19 stamps
Haunted Woods: trickenzie with 18 stamps
Neopia Central: trickenzie with 22 stamps
Neoquest: rjmc8888 with 20 stamps
Snowy Valley: spamela15 and wetherstone with 23 stamps each
Meridell vs. Darigan: trickenzie with 18 stamps
Lost Desert: trickenzie with 22 stamps
The Battledome: trickenzie with 22 stamps
Battle for Meridell: trickenzie with 15 stamps
NeoquestII: trickenzie with 15 stamps
Evil Coconuts: trickenzie with 10 coconuts
Seashells: mizzkis with 10 seashells

The other pages (especially coins) were either not entered, or entered with less than 10 items on them, so we didn’t count them.

Trickenzie – we are awed! You took ten out of 14 judged categories! And especially in the rarer pages as well. Buzz and CK will come to you in the future if they have any questions about stamps. We have to admit though, that we had a few entrants with also more than 200 stamps in their albums, that for some reason only entered one or two pages. We are a bit confused about that.

Congratulations to you all - and as mentioned above we will send out our gifts as soon as the duplicated item mess is finally resolved.

We are also having a little literary geography quiz and are hoping you will take part in that as well. The questions will be posted on this page for a week for you to answer. There will be smaller prizes for every question and a grand prize for the person answering most questions right – so get out your maps and books.... Again send a neomail to booklovers_cardshop with the subject line "Geography" and the answer in the text – don’t mention the word "contest" anywhere in the neomail. Good luck to all and we hope it was fun.

Here are the results from the quiz:

The last round of our quiz was quite popular and almost everybody that entered got all the questions right – nobody had less then 4 out of 5 possible points.

The first to enter correctly was

Arispect

Congratulations!

We had to draw the other three lucky winners.

althegreat17
missemma3
sandij80

We only had three members that entered the quiz all three weeks that it was running, and with varying success on the questions that had several parts (the first and third question). So we were able to give out first to third place in the quiz overall without any problem.

1st place : sini74
2nd place : mizzkis
3rd place : sandij80

Buzz and CK were quite pleased with the results, even though they had hoped for more people to enter.

(I will give you a hint: you may find the link between new names and old names, just look on the guild website.)
  4. This member is ranked as a librarian, has a mutant kiko and was one of many people to recieve the Member of the Month award. Who is it?
Please remember to neomail your answers to the Phase One questions to bookluver_codestones by 11:59pm (NST) on Saturday, July 17. Put "Trivia" in the subject of your neomail.

- The puzzle introduction and all clues will be posted every other week on the GOBL Activities page.
- You have until the end of Saturday, March 18 (11:59 PM NST), to solve the puzzle and submit your answer. Only one answer is allowed per person, and please do not submit answers from multiple accounts.
- Answers must be submitted to techservlib. Answers sent to other accounts may not receive credit.

Avatar Pets

Michelle, Steve, Troy and Vicky each decided to purchase a paint brush and paint their pets colours to earn an avatar. Can you figure out which brush (Grey, Orange, Pink or Snow) each used, and the pet species they used them on (Cybunny, Grundo, Koi, or Kougra)?

Try to solve the puzzle using these clues:
  • The four players are: 1) Michelle, 2) the one who painted a Koi, 3) Troy, and 4) the one who painted a pet Grey.

  • Of course, the player who bought the Orange Paint Brush used it on a Grundo.

  • There are no Snow Kougras, nor Snow Koi.

  • Troy painted the Cybunny; Steve used the Grey Paint Brush.

You may also find this ready-made logic grid helpful in solving the puzzle. (If you can't view this PDF file, you may need to download the free Adobe Reader program, which is available here.)
And for all those that find the general idea of logic puzzles difficult, here is a general describtion

Good luck to all participants :)
Submit answers and questions or comments to techservlib.

Last puzzle solution:
Adam planned to read 5 books, but was distracted by his nephew.
Jeff hoped to read 2 books, but caught up on his sleep instead.
Karen spent her vacation watching DVDs, instead of reading 3 books.
Sarah set up a wireless network for her sister, instead of reading 6 books

Last puzzles lucky participants were ldybadger, ladoora, and micacamcam

Poetry Challenge

Welcome to the Booklovers’ Guild's Poetry Challenge. Every two weeks (or so) we will be posting some lines of a poem. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to track down the title of the poem and the poet's name and neomail your answer to the appropriate person. We will then select the reigning poetry champions at random from those who submit the correct answer before the start of the next round. Enjoy! :)

This Week’s Citation:

I love thee to the depth and
breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling
out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

Good luck to all the participants!

Archived Activities
These activities are over and done with. They are listed here in case you want to see what you've missed!

The Activities Activity

Thanks to everyone who sent ideas! The Council has been sorting through all the suggestions and will be announcing winners soon!

Are you smart? Savvy? Creative? Inventive? Good!!!

We, the Guild, are conducting a massive search for new activities to run--call it "The Activities Activity" if you will.

If you have a great idea for a recurring or one-time activity, neomail Shrike76 with your idea and we can hammer out the details. Final drafts will be reviewed by the Guild Council for approval.

Prizes will be given out to those who suggest ideas that we end up selecting for use (if multiple people send in the same idea, we will give credit to the first sender).

Suggestions will be taken throughout the month of January, so no need to hurry, but don't wait too long!

Design a Disease

The voting is over and the results are in! See the winners here.

A guild full of readers must be a guild full of people with great imaginations, right? We would like you to put your imagination to work inventing a new Neopian disease (and a cure for it, of course). Your suggestion should include four things:

Name of disease
Brief description of disease
Name of cure
Brief description of cure

Here's an example (using a current disease):

Achy Head - Your pet will have a nasty headache and feel very under the weather.
Magic Goop - To cure an achy head soak your pet's feet in this magic green goop twice daily.

Send your suggestion to booklovers_pharmacy by midnight Saturday, May 15th. Each entrant will receive a special gift from Flo. (Only one entry per member, please.)

The suggestions will be posted on a web site on May 16th so the entire guild can see them and vote on their favorites through May 30th. Go here to vote. Everyone who votes will be eligible for a random prize drawing.

There will be prizes for the three suggestions that get the most votes, plus a random prize drawn from all the remaining suggestions. Turn on your imaginations and join the fun!

RPG Case Challenge

The Guild's RPG group (otherwise known as the Guild of Booklovers Detectives, or GOBD) were almost out of things to do. All that was really left for them to solve was that lingering Case of the Missing Petpets... and idle detectives aren't very happy detectives, either.
So the GOBD asked for your help in finding new cases to solve. Just because we hadn't heard of anything didn't mean it wasn't out there!

Guild members were asked to send in ideas for mysteries our intrepid detectives could solve, and then the guild as a whole was invited to vote on which cases we should take on next.

The votes are all in, and here are your winners:

In third place, with twelve votes: Case #2, by cybraria!!

And in second place, with fourteen votes: Case #1, by rosietheriviter!!

And in first place, with a stunning twenty six votes...
Case #3: Recipe for Disaster by lailahr!!!

Congratulations to all our winners, and a big thanks to all who sent in ideas and participated in the voting! Be sure to stop by the RPG Board soon to see how our new cases are progressing, and feel free to pull out your magnifying glass and badge and join in the fun!

The Guild of Booklovers War Challenge

Amass those dubloons and codestones! Stock up on the best possible weapons and armor! Run, don't walk, to the battledome!

As you know, war is upon us, and Meridell needs you!
We will be awarding prizes to people based on how well they perform in the war. All you have to do is neomail Shrike76, with the subject line "War Challenge", saying that you want to participate and you will be entered.
We will rank people based on their strongest pets, so that the categories are fair, and award prizes for the leaders in several categories.
Pet stats will be checked at the end of the war to determine rankings.
You can battle with as many pets as you want, because it won't affect your ranking or your final score in the war. :)

UPDATED: 05/17/2004 - 15:00 NST
War is over!!! And thus ends the war challenge...
Everything went beautifully for the war challenge, with no unexpected hitches.

Also, all non-war 1-player battledome opponents have returned.

In all, 57 people entered the war challenge, and the winners are here below.
The groups were based on pet statistics. I added together your pets' Hit Points, Strength and Defence, and everyone was grouped together based on the total of those three stats. To find out what group you were in, just add up those three stats and compare it to the ranges in the groups below.

Where's Benny?

Benny has been found!

One of the council members kidnapped Benny the Bookworm and hid him somewhere on the guild's web site (angelfire). Guild members were called upon to search each page of the website carefully because the dastardly council member hid him very well.

The booklovers_webmaster account posted a reward for information leading to his return. A prize was awarded to the first person to locate Benny each week and three more prizes were randomly selected from all correct entries. There was also a grand prize selected from the members who located Benny every time.

Congratulations to Staminator, winner of the grand prize! Stam received a gift certificate worth 50,000 nps to be used at the guild shops.
Congratulations are due as well to cybraria, mevard, and coolestkiddo, who also found Benny every week and won gift certificates worth 10,000 nps.

Weekly winners for the last hunt were mom10001(first), hlss, lisaz1a, maccajane, and x_devil_x5.

Thanks to all who helped us find Benny!
