Britney has taken charge of her personal life too. It was her idea to come clean about her longtime relationship with *NSync's Justin Timberlake. At the VMA's - days before the love connection became public knowledge - she put her foot down when someone in her circle suggested that she park herself anywhere in the audience but beside Justin.

"I was like, 'I want to sit by him,'" Britney says firmly. "He's fun to be around. I love his company. With him and my brother sitting by me, it made me feel so much more at ease and at peace."

"It's just cool to have someone who understands what you go through - and he totally understands my schedule - and to have someone to talk to like a really good friend," says Britney of the guy she affectionately refers to as J. "He is such a sweetheart. He is everthing, and what more could you want in a person? He's funny. He's cute. He's great. He just understands. I get him and he gets me, and that's cool."

“I met Britney when I was 12,” Justin explained, “And we became really good friends. We had a lot of things in common because we were both raised in the same kind of southern family that taught us to have manners, honesty, loyalty and honor. Those were the rules -- you never turn your back on a family member. We had a lot of the same culture and upbringing.”

“It was at a casting camp for the Mickey Mouse Club,” he continued. “Jessica Simpson was there, too. Britney was really tiny -- we were all little kids. The thing that I always remember about her is that she just had that glow about her. When I saw her dance, I knew she was going to be something more than just a cast member on a TV show.”

An event that would no doubt rank high on Jusin's list of unforgettable events: girlfriend Britney Spears's choice to go public with their relationship. "That was her decision," says Justin. "I've always told her, if that's something that she wanted to do, then I didn't mind. It's so hard to have a relationship, period." He's confident, though, that the romance can survive the inevitable media scrutiny. "If you really love somebody, nothing can get in the way. 'Look, I love you, you love me, that's it.' Problems are going to come and go... She and I complement each other. She breathes fresh air into me; she's like a reality check. She's absolutely wonderful, an absolutely beautiful person, inside and out. When things are said about her, I take offense to them even more than she does."

Joey weighs in, characterizing the superstar pair as completely down-to-earth. "When they come together," he says, "it's like, 'What do you want to do?' 'Let's sit down and watch TV.' Stuff like that."

"Only she understands my crazy head", explained Justin from *Nsync, reffering to his recent falling in love (enamoro: means 'falling in love' but in this language it doesn't necessary means he is "head over heels" though he might very well be.) with the most proclaimed star Britney Spears, by the pool at the Intercontinental Hotel. "I am in love with her. (Again, not the same meaning..) It's good to relate to someone who knows what I'm going through," said the young man with curly hair and dark Ray Bans.

When it comes to romance, Britney Spears knows all the tricks in the book. Apparently the sexy songbird goes out in public with *NSync crooner Justin Timberlake just to throw people off the trail of who her real beau is. The pop princess only has eyes for mystery man Adam, an aspiring actor in Hollywood with whom she shares an apartment in Studio City, CA, say sources close to the singer. But Spears is starting to tire of the charade, telling friends that she can't wait to introduce her true love at a concert in front of thousands of her fans.
