"Florida Audubon Society is the statewide voice of conservation,
promoting the protection, preservation and restoration of birds,
all wildlife, and their habitat through science-based advocacy and education.
Organized in 1900 to stop the wholesale slaughter of wading birds,
today's 35,000 members are committed to awareness, protection and
restoration of Florida's unique habitats. Florida Audubon Society
works to heighten the awareness of Florida's natural wonders in young
and old alike, through educational programs, field trips, talks and
literature to encourage stewardship of nature's storehouse of resources.
Florida Audubon Society is an independent, tax-exempt non-profit
organization. It is formally affiliated with the National Audubon
Society and they share joint programs in advocacy, science and
environmental education. All of the 45 Audubon chapters in Florida
are chapters of both Florida Audubon Society and National Audubon Society.
Audubon members in Florida have full membership privileges in National
Audubon, Florida Audubon and their local chapter.
As the Florida Audubon Society approaches its second century,
the Society is working to ensure that the voice of conservation
continues to speak out strongly and clearly for managing growth
in Florida and sustaining the natural resources that birds, other
wildlife and even human populations depend upon."
