The living room after renovations

In the living room, we ripped out all of the cracked old plaster than had been covered with many layers of wallpaper then painted over. We also ripped out the ceiling plaster so that we could add extra joists which were spaced too far apart for the span of the rooms. Termite damaged floor boards were replaced, and all floors refinished.

I thought it peculiar that the chimney was several feet wider in the living room that it was in the bedroom above. It turns out that the real chimney (meant for old pot bellied stoves) had been walled in with dry wall to give the appearance of a wide fireplace. We added a mantle and the ironwork you see here.
