To the rest of the candidates the wait for the clutch to hatch seemed such a long time but Tian and Irlan hardly noticed. When the day came and they walked out onto the sands hand-in-hand much of the crowd cheered, the story of the shy girl from the remote Hold and the boy who had followed her had attracted the attention of many Weyr inhabitants.
Looking around they could see their families in the stands, although Tian suspected that most of her family were only there because it was a chance to see a Weyr. But her thoughts were cut short by gasps from the audience as a few of the eggs started to rock and crack.
Suddenly a loud crack was heard and one of the eggs cracked open revealing green hide, a green first was a known "bad omen" but once the little hatchling was free of her shell it was revealed that she was as much white as green, a special dragon first was one of the best omens there was. The hatchling, unstable for a second, waddled quickly over to Tian.
Tian,I am Ovaranith.

Irlan watched Tian and Ovaranith leave the sands, I knew she'd impress a high rank, I bet I'll be left here with no dragon. At least I'll be able to stay with her but now she's got a dragon will she have time for me?
Irlan hardly noticed the dragons impressing around him when suddenly something nudged him, he looked down and saw a brown hatchling at his feet, Zeliranth is here Irlan. Lets go find Tian and Ovaranith now shall we?
"Yes we shall." He said as he lead the hatchling out of the sands.
