Tian's first impression of White River Weyr was that it was so much bigger than her birth Hold, Ber Hold. She looked down from the back of green Tarith, the dragon that had searched her, and gasped as she swooped low to land.
"What do you think?" Asked Cirsa, Tarith's rider, but the words were all but blown away by the wind that swept past them.
"Wow, it's amazing!" Tian exclaimed, but Cirsa did not hear her.
Tarith landed gracefully and Cirsa helped Tian down.
"I never thought that I'd ever get to go to a Weyr."
"Why's that?" Cirsa asked.
"Dragons hardly ever stop at Ber, only after threadfall."
"Well I've got to admit that we've never searched there before but it's a big clutch. Gold Yamareth laid 20 eggs so we searched further than usual."
"So what am I to do today?" Tian asked, thinking that at such a large place as White River Weyr she would be required to do many chores.
"What do you mean?"
"What chores am I to do?"
Cirsa burst into laughter; "You needn't do any chores today! I suggest that you take a look around the Weyr."
"Really?" Asked Tian, she was astonished to hear this as she had done chores almost every day since she was six turns old.
"Yes really!"

Tian poked her head around the door of the little sands.
"Hey there. I'm K'talinal, brown Phaytreth's rider. Are you here to impress a flit?" Said a young man as he gestured Tian into the small room.
"Hi I'm Tian of Ber Hold and I would love a flit." She said, excited by her luck at finding a room full of fire lizard eggs.
"Well, one of these clutches is due to hatch very soon, about now in fact. So be quick and grab an egg," K'talinal said.
Tian looked over the eggs and quickly chose the one that seemed closest to hatching; she cradled it in her hands and within a minute of picking it up it hatched to reveal a tiny green flitter. It cried loudly in hunger.
"Awww she's beautiful." Tian said, awed. She had had as little experience with fire lizards as she had had with dragons.
"Here, feed her some of this" K'talinal held out a plate of raw herdbeast meat and Tian took a handful, "What are you going to call her?" He asked.
Tian thought for a moment while she fed the little creature, "I think I'll call her Tirila."
"Nice name!" K'talinal said.
