The
Leaders
GSL- Gordon
Braidwood
Gordon
is our long standing GSL, who is still going strong after 40+ years in
the group. He is married to Mandy, our Beaver leader and has the one son
Scott. He, along with his brother who are both CA's, run a well established accountancy
firm. In his spare time, apart from that devoted to the Group, he is a
keen amateur dramatist a squash and tennis player. He is also an avid follower of rugby.
SL- Jonathan Tait
Jonathan, has recently just taken over the
position of Scout Leader from Paul Matthews and is extremely motivated in
the position. He has been in the 75th since the tender age of 6, when he
was one of the first Beavers in the Group and indeed the Area. He is now
23 and hasn't really matured with age, as can be seen below. Jonathan works
with his father in their family company, Horizon Medical Technologies,
running the office side of the business.
When not organizing the Scouts, he can usually be found maintaining the
Scout Hall or Tynehead, Organizing Scout post, or like Gordon involved
in amateur dramatics. He is a member of the Edinburgh Scout and Guide Gang
Show, Southern Light Opera Company and an executive member of Lothian Youth
Arts and Musicals Company. As you can gather he's a busy chap.
ASL & ACSL- Mark Elliot
Yes it's that's me, so what nice things can I say
about myself. Well. I have been in the 75th since I was a cub at the age
of 8. I'm now 21 and unlike JT I have blossomed with age. (well that's
my opinion anyway!) I have had my warrant since the age of 18 and have
been assisting in Cubs for 6 years and Scouts for 2. I mainly concentrate
on the Cub Section, doing most of the administrative work and preparing
a lot of the program. I also maintain the internet pages for the Group,
help JT with hall and Tynehead maintenance, and am a cast member in the
Gang Show. Outside Scouting I am a final year student at Heriot Watt University
reading Civil and Environmental Engineering. I still live at home with
my parents. My other main hobby, (and
money vacuum) is Photography.
ASL- Paul Matthews
Paul used to be the Scout leader but due to other
commitments involved in his Ph.D studies had to stand down after 3 years
service. Paul is in the last year of his Ph.D. in Microbiology at Edinburgh
University. Paul was a Scout in England before moving to Edinburgh and
wisely choosing to join the 75th. Paul also runs a breakfast for the homeless
on Sunday mornings at his church. If you keep your eyes open you will no
doubt spot him cycling round the city. You'll know it's him by the stickers
and bugs he has plastered all over his helmet!
ASL- Kevin Roarty
Kevin has been in the 75th since he was 8. After
his time in the Cubs, Scouts and Ventures, Kevin has chosen to take up
a warrant in the Scout section and has now been an assistant leader for
a year. Outside Scouting Kevin is a student reading Civil Engineering at
Edinburgh University and is in his third year. When not Scouting or studying
Kevin likes to play rugby and socialize.
ASL- Tony Paton
Like Jonathan, Tony was one of Edinburgh's first
Beavers. He has progressed through all the sections and is now a valuble
and entertaining part of the Scout Leadership Team. Tony works in the Civil
Service pensions department and is also like Kevin a keen rugby player,
dauning the Laswade RFC Jersey most Saturdays. Also like Kevin (and all
the other leaders) Tony is a keen socialiser.
CSL- Michael Herriott
Michael was a welcome addition to the 75th Leadership
team three years ago. He took over as CSL at a time when the pack was being
run by ACSL's Mark and Julie(who has since left the 75th) and imediately
filled the void left by the previous leader. Michael is not new to the
75th, he recalls being a Cub in the Group years back. Michael, who used
to be a major in the Army is now a lecturer at Napier University, and is
married to Lucy and has three children, George, Charles, and Richard. In
what spare time he has left Michael keeps his army interests up by being
an officer in the TA.
ACSL- Alan Mathie
Alan has been helping with the Cubs for Seven years
now and like Tony is one of the more ammusing members of the leader team.
Unfortunately for Alan the joke is usually on him (see picture below!).
Alan has just finnished his degree in Electronic Engineering and has taken up a position with Sun Microsystems. When not working or Scouting, Allan is usually found
fufilling his love of the internal combustion engine. His latest buy is
a motorbike.
