    Denmark 1999

In July seven Scouts and five Leaders joined other Scouts from Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Norway to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Danish Glostrup Group. The anniversary camp was held at Oruphoj which was about an hours drive inland from Copenhagen. There was a total of around 150 Scouts and Leaders at the camp, who all worked together well in many joint activities. After the camp we spent the last three days sightseeing in copenhagen and sleeping in a Glostrup Scout hall.

The Camp
We arrived at the site a day after everyone else so the camp was already well under way, apart from the official opening ceremony in which we were rushed to as soon as we arrived. This took the form of a campfire based on the theme of the first Glostrup Scout camp. After the lengthy but amusing ceremony, we retreated to one of the activity tents were we spent the first night as it was now to late to be thinking of pitching our own tents. The next morning we set up camp, it was hard work, as we all found it very hot and humid that day. We then followed the programme below for the next 9 days.     We all had a terrific time at the camp, which everyone will remember for years to come. The highlight for the Scouts was certainly, winning of the football competition (Mind you, some may say it was the female Swedish Scouts!) and for the leaders had to be the peeling of the final potato of what seemed like a field full, presented to us for cooking the tea. (Not that I ever actually had to peel a potato - Mark - There always seemed to be a photo to take or a Scout needing first aid attention. Ah, the benefits of being the camp photographer and first aider!)

 Copenhagen Sightseeing.
On the Tuesday we struck camp and by lunch were on a train to Glostrup, a suburb of Copenhagen (20 min in the train). By the time we arrived at the Scout hall we were staying in we were all completely exhausted and spent the evening just relaxing, so we would be fit for the next three days intensive sightseeing.

Wed.         morning- Trip to the beach (Scouts & Leaders Gordon, Jonny, Alan)/ Reconisance and Sightseeing in
                                Copenhagen (Leaders Mark & Paul).
                 afternoon- As Above.

Thurs.        morning- Copenhagen Sightseeing (All).
                 afternoon- As above.
                 evening- Camp fire 5.

Fri.            morning- Swimming (Scouts & Leaders Mark and Paul)/ Copenhagen Sightseeing (Leaders Gordon, Alan, Jonny).
                 afternoon- Tivoli Theme Park (All)
                 evening- Pack up kit.

All in all the last few days in Copenhagen put the icing on the cake of the trip, and made it more than just a Scout camp abroad. By nine on Saturday morning we were on a train to the airport, as a leader you could see that many of the Scouts were going over their experiences of the last two weeks in their heads, as you would get the odd question asked, or hear, do you remember... As a leader listening to this, is one of the most rewarding  and memorable experiences of the camp and makes the effort put into the trip over the last two years worth while.
