The History of Pondera is written in a number of ancient books.

Browse Them:

The history of Pondera is first referenced in the Satus Caudex (Book of Origins) as is quoted here.

"In the beginning, there were but four planes, and ours was not among them"

In the ancient times, the world did not exist. There were but four realms. First, and highest, was the Realm of Eutopia. Where the Gods and Angels lived. Second, was the Realm of Faery. Inhabited by Sprites, Fairies, Elves, and other such carefree creatures. Next, was the realm of Purga. Inhabited by the Dwarves, Orcs, and Imps; creatures who were led by desire. Fourth was the realm of Hades, inhabited by Ogres, Succubi, and Demons; creatures of power, led by pride and avarice. The latter, having forged their own realm after their expulsion from Eutopia. The gods in Eutopia, seeking worshippers, fashioned out of nothingness yet another realm, this realm one of balance. In order to create such a place, they took pieces of all of the other Realms, Eutopia, Faery, Purga, and Hades; incorporating them into one. They then made a merge of all of the races, and melded them into one, the race of man. They gave man many things. Animals to hunt and help hunt; plants to grow and harvest for food and medicine, air to breathe, and water with which to live. Then, realizing that man should be left to grow on their own; they left, calling the realm Pondera. They allowed men to have free will and choice, to worship whom they chose, good or evil. Free will to act as they wish, for good, or for evil.

The History of Pondera is next referenced in Abire ab Vir (Coming of Man) as is quoted here.

"And man came unto a world in which they were not alone. And they tempted to gain it for their own."

When Man first appeared in Pondera, they were not alone. Some of the other species had already made their way here. The stalwart Dwarves, short, but powerful. The fair Elves, tall and handsome. The Orcs, creatures whose appearance could turn a mans stomach, and whom were quite vicious. Even some of the darker beings of Hades and brighter beings of Eutopia made the trip. Man, being a mix of the virtues of every race, often fell into jealousy or hatred of the other races. Seeking to either destroy them, or use them to Mans own advantage. Eventually the other races refused to bear the brunt of Man's labour. This shocked and angered man, who then sought to enslave the other races. Thus started the first War of the Races. The war did not last long. Man was in its infancy, and would have been wiped out if not for the intervention of the gods, and the mercy of the other races. Eventually man learned to co-exist with the races, seeking help primarily from the Elves, and even from the Dwarven peoples.

The History of Pondera is next referenced in Aetas Caudex (Book of Ages) as is quoted here.

"It was the Elves who forged the first alliance with man, then the Dwarves. The other races remained aside."

It soon became apparent to the races, that an alliance was necessary. Humans were alone and too tempestuous to survive. Most of the Elves had lost their magic, and had begun to rely on hunting for their food. Although still a woodland people, they often ventured out into the world of man for trading and seeking knowledge. The Dwarves, although content to stay in their mines and caves, found the humans to be willing to pay high prices for their fine craftsmanship, for it was the best in the land. The races grew and prospered. The Orcs on the other hand, remained separate. Hated by the others for their appearance and disgusting nature. The woodland Nymph's and Sprites were always ethereal, and had no need to concern themselves with the affairs of either race. Truly a prosperous time for the planet. Many great marvels and monuments to the gods were constructed, and civilizations grew through the use of science and magic. Great cities sprawled across the landscape as civilization grew. But times were to change. The beings contained in Hades, filled with hatred and jealousy for what the gods had bestowed upon the mortal races. They hungered for it. And they hatched a plan to take it.

The History of Pondera is next referenced in the evil book Abrogare Obscurus (Dark Annul) as is quoted here.

"And he looked upon man, and man was small. He smirked, the coming of Malus was at hand."

Malus was the demon first chosen to enter the mortal realm, although others would follow. He brought with him a horde of lesser demon soldiers, and the power to raise the dead to fight in his name. The humans, Elves, Dwarfs and even Orcs joined together to face this new threat. Even some of the ethereal beings joined the cause of light. Eutopia, having sworn to stay out of mans affairs, dispatched but a singe angel to fight for their cause, Liber. They gave to him a blessed sword, and blessed armour. In the end, he struck down Malus, sending him screaming back to Hades. But knowing that the dark forces within Hades would not quit, he left his blessed armor and sword in the custody of man, and went back into Eutopia. The horrors he had witnessed almost corrupting even him. The world, now lay in ruin, and it was up to the mortal races to rebuild. But they now had a new threat in the land. The army of Malus still existed. However, they were disorganized without their leader. They were divided and many a hero made a name for himself hunting down the more powerful of these beasts.

"And having screamed at his defeat, Abolitio stepped forth. The power contained within this blade will not stop me...."

Hell was not content with but one failure. They attempted yet again. This time sending the powerful Abolitio. Again war raged across the land. Destruction rained down on mankind. But in the end, a human warrior named Seth; whom was a Dragon Rider, defeated Abolitio using Liber's Armour and Blade. But Abolito was more powerful than Malus. And when he died, he opened the doorway to hell, to pull Seth through. He was unsuccessful. When the smoke cleared, the world lay torn. Seth lay dead, his dragon at his side. The armor and Blade missing. Although thought to have gone to hell, it was generally agreed upon that blessed items could not exist there. So the talismans were said to have returned to their master in Eutopia.

We next return to the Aetas Caudex (Book of Ages) for the next chapter.

"Now the Seven lay sealed in their tombs. Although they screamed for freedom, there were those who stood in their way."

It came to pass that 3 tombs were found. Sanctuaries that held powerful demons entombed. These tombs were held under tight guard, by a secret order known as The Hunters Society. But soon, a fourth tomb was to be found, and breached; thus releasing the evil inside. The lone demon, whom was known to man as The Dark Eagle; searched the earth for his brothers, numbering seven. And he found his brothers and released them, all the while being chased by the Hunters. The demon realized that he would need help to release his remaining three brothers. To do this he turned to a human female. Copulating with her, she gave birth to a son. Their offspring, a half human half demon hybrid, struck out into the world to build his own order to challenge the hunters. Stealing even from the ranks of the hunters themselves, he made himself an army, and sought to release the three remaining creatures.

We next return to the evil book Abrogare Obscurus (Dark Annul) for the next chapter.

"The master of deception woke the devil and then set him free."

The son of The Dark Eagle soon planted a seed within the body of the Hunter Sanitas. Unbeknownst to the hunter the curse allowed the son of the Dark Eagle, known as Vis to see through his eyes, for he carried one of the seven sealed with his flesh. He had a cursed sword, taken from the demon which lay beneath his breast. The demon eventually left him, which relieved the swords curse, revealing it to be the blade of Liber. Vis had with him an undead warrior bound to him through dark magics. This warrior became the mortal enemy of every hunter, and the savior of all things dark. His name was Acerbus. Soon together Vis and Acerbus united the seven demons, and they merged to form the demon Abolitio. Abolitio swore vengeance, and a dark time was at hand.

The history of Pondera is next referenced in the Libellus ab Lux (Book of Light) for the next chapter.

"A loud rush was heard, along with a light that swept the land. When it cleared, Abolitio had been dispatched."

Upon the release of Abolitio, Vis turned against his knight, breaking the bond so he could slay him. But Acerbus was a true warrior in his lifetime, and fought back, conquerring Vis. He then returned to his rest. Although at one time great enemies, Sanitas saw a powerful ally, and awoke the warrior, whose human name was Vincent, and they together struck out after Abolitio. They fought and struck him down, causing another rift to be tore open, and this time Abolitio was pulled through, back into the Hades. Afterwards Vincent returned to rest, and Sanitas swore the spirit of the warrior Seth was there to protect him from the void.
