The REWARDS Page

As part of our desire to incite new levels of role-playing, we have implemented a Reward Point system. If you receive even a single reward point, you have received high praise indeed: it means that your DM or your fellow players found you to be a sterling example of role-playing ability.

How do I get Reward Points?

There are three basic ways to acquire reward points (RP). One is that your DM may be so impressed with the quality of your gaming he may award you a RP. This is likely to be a pretty infrequent occurrence. Part of this is because we expect all our players to have a high standard of role-playing to begin with. And the other part is that each DM is only permitted to hand out 2 Reward Points per adventure! He’s not required to do this… he can give out no RPs if he wants; it’s completely up to the DM.

The second way to earn RPs is to have the Player Character party award one to you. At the end of each adventure, the players may vote to give one of their fellows the Most Valuable Player award. In game terms, this translates into one bonus RP. If players cannot agree who should receive the bonus RP, the DM may cast a vote, or no RP may be awarded. Hey, these are bonuses: you’ve got to be really good to get them.

The last, and probably hardest way to get a Reward Point is the DM fumble. Your DMs, despite their best efforts are human too. And sometimes they make mistakes. If you point out a major rule error, or expose a serious plot hole in the DM’s game, you are actually doing the DM a service by helping him to become a finer Dungeon Master. If the problem is serious enough, the DM may offer a RP point to the helpful player. Keep in mind that the DMs do not award RPs to rules lawyers or those who are just being nit-picky. It must be a serious error… and its still completely up to DM discretion whether to award a RP or not. Keep in mind that if you are awarded an RP under these circumstances, it is your responsibility to help the DM correct the error and keep the game moving smoothly.

What do I do with Reward Points?

You may use your Reward Points to purchase minor benefits which will help you in the game. Some of the awards are rather expensive, and you may have to hoard RPs for quite a while before being able to select the benefit you want. There’s hurry though. Even is your character should die or be retired, you may still use your unspent RPs towards your next character. Some awards may be purchased only once, others may be purchased multiple times. Some awards may only be acquired when your character reaches a certain level. Check the descriptions carefully before deciding. Benefits cannot be purchased while your character is on an adventure… only between adventures.

Once your decision had been made, email the Player Representative with your choice. He will make certain the RPs are deducted from your character sheet, and the new benefit will be applied beginning with his next adventure.

(Note to DMs: The maximum amount of RPs a PC group can earn in a single adventure… not a session, a full adventure…. Is 4. The Dungeon Master may award up to two points for exceptional role-playing and problem-solving ability. The players may vote at the end of the adventure and award a single RP to one of their number. Let them discuss it first. Finally, if you (as the DM) had a major foul-up that the players helped you fix, you can award another RP to a single player – either the one who noticed it or the one who fixed it. All RP awards must be reported at the conclusion of the adventure by the DM to the Player Representative).
