Standard Rewards Guidelines
Experience Points:
For Exp. Points in Fallen
Dreams we do not go by monster kill CR. Since we focus on the story and
role-playing we feel that kind of reward is unfair to those that are not
monster slayers. So we have made a guideline to help maintain equality.
For a 4 hour session DMs
should award 300-500x the characters level. This is the min and max you
should stay within. Exp. Points are awarded character by character basis,
not by average of the whole party.
Magic Items:
Another reward, which we
wish to regulate, is magic items. Here is a rough guideline per session:
Character level: Category and Number:
1-3 1 item from the 3000gp or under
list (page 247 DMG)
4-5 1 minor
item
6-12 1 medium item
13+
1 major item
Magic item ratio for
changing the category is 3-1 i. e. (3 minor items = 1 medium item). The
market value for both items groups must be within 10 % of the most
expensive single item. (Note: that items from the 3000 and under list are
considered minor.)
Magic items in shops are
often hard to find. It generally requires a lot of shopping around and
sometimes you can not find what you are looking for. Players generally must
succeed at Diplomacy check DC = 15+(required level to make the item) to
find the item they are looking for. DMs may choose not to allow this roll
if they feel the area they are in would not have any such item. Only one
check per session.
Even if they are successful
in finding the item prices are often 3x the normal market value. Selling
magic items to shops, players should receive roughly the market value of
the item. There are no guidelines for player to player item exchanges,
except that they must be approved by a DM.
Mundane Rewards:
For mundane rewards such as
gold and valuable but non-magical items we have no guidelines for them at
this time. We feel that these things will not unbalance a character by too
much. We do want our DMs to give what they think is fair. If it becomes a
problem we may change this ruling.
