Dark Elf City Guard

Each of the Dark Elf cities is garrisoned by a mighty army of warriors. Their primary duty is to protect the city from enemy attack, but they can also be mobilized by the Witch King in times of war. The core of each great garrison is its Guard. Dark Elves relish battle, and it is considered to be a great honour to serve in the City Guard. From the tall towers of their cold cities the City Guard keep watch over the land and ready themselves for war.

Half of the Dark Elves in a city guard are armed with spears, while the other half carry the ubiquitous Dark Elf repeater crossbow. This means that they are equipped to battle any foe, even if they are operating on their own without support from other Dark Elf troops.

On the battlefield City Guard units from up in a unique two rank formation, with the crossbowmen in the front rank and the spearmen in the second rank. This is an excellent defensive formation which is almost impossible for most enemy troops to attack frontally.
