Milan was amazing. It was definitely an unexpected highlight of our trip. Andy took us off the tourist path and we hung out with some genuine Italians. We stayed with Andy outside of Milan in Cesano Maderno. All the suberbs are side by side and we travelled through many of them.
We went to a Canadian pub, a mexican restaurant and best of all ate TONNES of genuine ITALIAN FOOD. The cars were small and the traffic was crazy fast. Andy just recently got a car so we toured around in luxury. The car Graham is standing beside is called a Smart Car. It is quite popular in European cities where space is tight.
I am pretty sure the trick to the amazing food lies in the tomato! The produce was to die for. So tasty and always fresh and in season. |
Now back to the food. We ate pasta and pizza in restaurants and in peoples kitchen. We ate it for lunch and supper as well as for a 4am snack. I loved every minute of it. The photo above is our 4am venture with Alfredo and Klodia. The boys are shooting Grappa after their meal. Pilks quite enjoyed the wine, grappa and any Italian tradition he came across.
Andy was our social convener and he did a great job. We spent a night out in Milan at an area where two rivers meet. It was called Naville. There were tonnes of pubs and eatteries with indoor and outdoor seating. Tonnes of people wandering around. Again I could say a tonne more...gelati, Sylvia and her bar of many beers, Parco Borromeo, Pizza at Fuori Orario, and the FRIENDLIEST people we encountered anywhere! I loved Italy.
