Our flight to London was routed through Ottawa. We had 6 hours between connecting flights so we decided to get out of the airport and see some sites. Krista had not been to Ottawa before so she was anxious to look around.
Unfortunately we arrived on July 2nd. One day after the big Canada Day celebrations. It would have been great. We must have got the friendliest cabbie in Ottawa. He dropped us off in Byward Market downtown. We wandered the streets for a little while and then decided to eat at the Black Thorn Cafe.

The food was great and our waiter was also friendly. He told us all about the festivities on July 1st and the 100 000 people that filled the streets. We were also only steps away from the US embassy where there had been big G8 protests weeks before.
After eatting we just had time to check out the parliment buildings. We walked all over the grounds and even into the main hall. We couldn't get much further without signing up for a tour. Somehow I can't picture getting that close to the White House. Only in Canada! Back to the airport... |
