Cut to More Fan Fiction

In 1999 a new show appeared on NBC, The West Wing, based around a core of people working in the west wing of the White House under the Administration of Democrat president Josiah (Jed) Bartlett (played by Martin Sheen—Apocalypse Now, Wall Street).

During the seven seasons of its run (covering Bartlett's two terms as President of the United States), The West Wing covered such topics as racism, hate crimes, foreign policies, the conflict in the Middle East, and other such issues that come up in the day-to-day running of the White House. There was even a special episode that was written in response to 9/11, called 'Isaac and Ishmael'.

Also staring Rob Lowe (The Outsiders, About Last Night) and Stockard Channing (Grease), The West Wing earned many Emmy awards and nominations during its seven year run, including Best Drama Series, and Best Supporting Actress for Allison Janney as C.J. Cregg.
