Match Report:

"MARTIN GOES M.I.A!"

Day 1:
ACC plays it's first away match of the season, travelling to Croydon Park to play Summer Hill Seniors (I know what you're thinking, Summer Hill's home ground is in Croydon Park - I don't get it either, but then again, our home ground is in Croydon!). For this match we don't have Maurice, Richard Chand who plays in our division eight team replaces him because their team has a bye this round. Summer Hill won the toss and elected to bat. Kristian and Sebastian missed the first few overs as they were running late because they had to vote in the federal election! So Richard opened the bowling and impressed us all with his right arm pace. Norm opened at the other end and bowled a couple of overs until Kristian arrived and replaced him. Instant success resulted for Kristian taking a caught and bowled for ACC's first wicket: 1/19. In his next over Kristian struck again with Sam Hayes taking a ripper of a catch at first slip: 2/21. Richard got the wicket he deserved soon after with the batsmen scooping a catch to Jeremy at cover to have Summer Hill in early trouble at: 3/29. However, their best batsmen K.Drew and captain S.Giles steadied the ship and put on a commanding partnership of 115 until Kristian was brought back on to bowl after the drinks break and bowled out Giles for 55: 4/144. Kristian caused damage again bowling out the next batsmen: 5/156. Sam Hayes was brought on to bowl and got to work, bowling out his first victim to make it: 6/188 and stuck again with his next delivery: 7/188, to be on a hat-trick. It didn't eventuate but ACC were now right back into the game. Norm got his first wicket bringing Drew's impressive knock to an end on 74 to have the score at: 8/194. Sam got his third wicket, bowled again: 9/200. Summer Hill's two tail enders showed no interest in scoring runs and just tried to survive as the afternoon neared it's end. Norm and Ray took turns at either end trying to clinch the final wicket with Norm finally bringing Summer Hill's innings to an end with Sebastian taking a good catch in the deep. So Summer Hill Seniors all out for 217 which included 23 extras with K.Drew top scoring with 74. Kristian again was the best of ACC's bowlers taking 4/41 and Sam with 3/25.

Day 2:
ACC arrived with the task ahead of them of having to chase 217. Ray was supposed to open the batting but arrived just as play was about to begin - he foolishly thought it was a 2pm start! So it was left to Richard to join Sam at the crease and the pair began well. Both guys hit nice shots around the park until Richard, on nine, edged a catch behind with Summer Hill's wicketkeeper taking an excellent catch diving low to his right: 1/30. Con came in to bat and together with Sam kept the runs ticking over at a good rate until a terrible lack of communication saw a mix-up in running between the wickets and Sam was tragically run out: 2/54. Next in - Ray! Ray got off to a good start, getting off the mark when facing his second ball. Unfortunately for ACC another one of their better batsmen succumbed again with Con being bowled for 11: 3/68. Ray looked in good touch until being duped by a slower ball, spooning a catch to the fielder at mid on: 4/79. From there ACC's innings fell apart with Sebastian bowled second ball for a duck: 5/80, Kristian the same result: 6/86, Jack bowled for two: 7/95, with Graham run out in similiar fashion to his son earlier: 8/105 and Norm also bowled for a duck: 9/105. Where was our English saviour from Round 1 you ask? Well we found out that Martin has left our team to take up a job as the official scorer for the Sydney University cricket team! So that left us with only ten players today and with a big vacancy to fill. So ACC all out for 105, with 14 extras and leaving Jeremy stranded on 23 not out.

Because ACC didn't score enough runs, Summer Hill were entitled to enforce the follow-on (a lead of 75 runs or more) and they did, making us bat again. This time around Ray did open the batting but didn't last too long, hitting a quick fire ten runs before being caught out by the fielder at point: 1/11. Con came and went being bowled for a duck, the big man is out of form: 2/11. Kristian got promoted up the batting order but failed to trouble the scorers this match, getting a pair: 3/19. This gave Summer Hill a bonus point for capturing three wickets in the second innings. Jeremy went back in and with Sam they both piled on quick runs, both looking to be in great touch. Jeremy was eventually bowled for 27: 4/56. Richard came in and whacked a big six over the bowlers head and Sam continued on, securing a bonus point for ACC as they passed 75 runs. The afternoon wound down and ACC finished up on: 4/100 with Sam not out on 45 and Richard on 12 not out. A first innings loss for ACC.
