Glossary of Cricket Terms
Declare: A decision made by the captain to end the innings when batting.
Duck: To be out scoring zero runs when batting.
Extras: Another term for Sundries.
Golden Duck: To be out first ball for zero runs when batting.
Howzat!?: A slang term (How is that?) for when the fielding team appeals to the umpire for a batsman's wicket.
King Pair: A batsman who has scored golden ducks in both innings of a match.
Knock: A slang term for a batsman's innings.
LBW: Leg Before Wicket
Pair: A batsman who has scored ducks in both innings of a match.
Pinch Hitter: A player from the batting team, usually promoted from the lower order, put into bat to score quick runs by batting aggressively.
Skyer A slang term for a ball hit by the batsman that goes high in the air.
Sundries: Extra runs added to the batting teams total made up of: Byes (runs conceded by the wicketkeeper), Leg Byes (runs scored from the batman's body - mainly leg), Wides (wide deliveries bowled) and No Balls (illegal balls bowled).
Tail-Enders: The last two batsmen in the batting order.
