States The
Baltic States, clustered along the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, include the
three independent republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania and their capitals
are Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius, respectively. They are associate members of
European Union. Lithuania has an area of 65,300
sq. km. and a population of 3.6 million (2000). Per capita GDP is US$
2,900. Litas/Litai (*L) is the local currency and US$1 = L4 approx. Languages of
the country are Lithuanian (official), Russian, Polish, English. Latvia has an
area of 63,700 sq. km. with a population of 2.4million (2000). Per capita GDP of
the country is US$ 2,610. *Lats/Lati is the currency unit and US$1 = Li 0.62.

Courses:
Courses are being offered in many fields like Engineering, Aviation,
Business, Medical (MD) etc. at bachelor (4-years), master (1.5-2 years) and
Ph.D. levels. Credit hours are transferable to many Scandinavian countries and
UK etc. Medium of instruction is English. Average
Fees:
US$3000 to US$4000 per year, for bachelor degrees. For master degrees,
fees vary from US$4000 to US$6500/year. There are two semesters in each academic
year and before going there, you have to deposit the fee for at least one
semester, Admission
Requirements:
Intermediate for admission at bachelor level, and a 4-year bachelor
degree or a master degree from Pakistan for admission at master level. For
admissions in engineering or medical, you need to have the related science
subjects in your intermediate. No English proficiency proof is required. Living:
The cost of living (Accommodation and food) is around US$200 per month
on average. Intake: September
each year. Students need to start the admission process at least 4 months before
the course commencement dates. Visa: By February 2001, these countries did not have their regular embassies in Pakistan. So the students have to apply for their visas from their embassies in Moscow or somewhere else. Proof of admission in the university, payment of the fee for at least one semester and some important documents of the applicants are the main requirements for the student visas. Usually universities help the students in the visa process. The students, for undergraduate degrees are also expected to be under 26 years of age.
