Books, Books, Books!
Don Farr, current AVID director and Tina Metcalf, at the U.S. Post Office, have facilitated our receipt of undeliverable books for distribution/donation throughout the Tulsa area.
AVID Readers gave away more than 3,000 books to children and their families in 2000. AVID receives numerous discounts from publishers and donations of new and gently used books from volunteers and organizations that coordinate book drives for AVID.
AVID needs a variety of books, including interactive board books with material to feel, flaps to lift and cardboard "pages" to turn for infants and toddlers, picture books with artistic illustrations, such as books by Tomie de Paola and Eric Carle, chapter books for children from ages 8 to teen-agers, multicultural books, parenting books and novels.
For information on organizing a book drive, donating books by an individual, or donating funds to purchase books, contact us at avidreaders@csctulsa.org
VISTA, Kathy Leach, coordinates a book giveaway as
part of the Family Literacy "Reading Celebration".
More than 300 books were given away to families
during the March school carnival.
AVID Founder, Krista Schumacher, spoke at a Southeast
Rotary luncheon. Thanks go to the Rotary Club of Tulsa
for their donation of $1,000 to AVID Readers.
The money will be used to purchase children's books.
Thanks go to the Junior League of Tulsa
for their faithful and generous book donations.
Doris Brown gives us a peek at some of the gifts.
