The words "I want to read!" ring out more and more every day!

Volunteer to Become an AVID Reader Today!

Volunteers with AVID Readers spark children's imaginations and encourage their desire to read. Volunteers read one-to-one with children in child care centers, preschools and Salvation Army Boys/Girls Club. Volunteers may also choose to read to a small group of children instead of or in addition to one-to-one reading.

AVID primarily serves children from low-income homes with no or few books available to them. Each child in the program receives one book a month to keep. By becoming an AVID volunteer, you will ensure that children in need have books in the home and are exposed to quality children's literature.

Reading circles, one-to-one reading and book drives make wonderful ongoing or one-time service projects for groups of students, employees, church groups, retirees or others looking for ideas to enhance group dynamics and foster teamwork.

Call us at 918-584-0469 to receive a volunteer application, to bring a group to one of our sites for a service project or to learn how to organize a book drive for Tulsa's children.
