Volunteers Make AVID Happen

Volunteers with AVID Readers spark children's imaginations and encourage their desire to read. Volunteers read one-to-one with children in child care centers and preschools. Volunteers may also choose to read to a small group of children instead of or in addition to one-to-one reading.

AVID primarily serves children from low-income homes with no or few books available to them. Each child in the program receives one book a month to keep. By becoming an AVID volunteer, you will ensure that children in need have books in the home and are exposed to quality children's literature.

It's all about having a good time with a friend and a book at Salvation Army West Child Development Center. Job Corps volunteer readers share many new wonders with the eager children who await their arrival each week.
