The Living Environment

We are all unique individuals. We are unique because of our genes. I am not talking about Levis or Mudd jeans, but the genes that are made up of DNA. All your hereditary information is contained in these genes. A pair of genes will determine a particular trait. Your genes are found on chromosomes. Chromosomes come in pairs. Humans have a total of 23 pairs of chromosomes. Each cell in the body contains the genetic information needed to create a human being. In sexual reproduction half of the genetic information comes from each parent. Offspring from sexual reproduction are not identical to either parent. However, in asexual reproduction the offspring are identical to the parent. This is due to the fact that only one parent is needed to reproduce.
