Felucca Journey

Introduction
The felucca trip from Aswan to Edfu was the highlight of my trip to Egypt. Great views of the Nile and two days of total relaxation - a nice break from the hustle of the tourist centres.

Organising
There are basically two options if you want to book a felucca trip out of Aswan. The easiest, and the one I took, is to take a trip organised by a hotel. This saves the hassle of looking around for captains yourself and also if you're on your own or with a small group, means you don't have to look for other people (the hotel will do it for you).

The other option is go direct to a captain, the obvious advantage of which is that you're not paying the hotel's commission.

Sleeping and Eating
The arrangement on my boat (and I presume the norm) was that everyone slept on the boat. Blankets were available, but it was very cold at night, so a good sleeping bag is recommended.

Food was cooked by our captain and his assistant. It consisted of simple, but incredibly tasty Egyptian food, mainly things like soups and vegetable based dishes.

Details
My felucca trip was booked through the Noorhan Hotel. The captain's name was Mohmed Quibly and each person on the boat payed ŁE60, including food and water. ŁE30 was payed up front and the rest at the end.

Village Visit

One of the undoubted highlights of the felucca trip was a visit to our captain Mohmed's village. We met the rest of Mohmed's family, played football with the children and then danced the night away to some traditional Nubian music.
