Lots and lots of up to date travel information from the makers
of the books.
Messaging service for travellers to ask for and give advice.
Excellent source of hard to find out, up to date information.
Student travel agents. This site includes a fare finder to world
wide destinations (which only seems to work in Windows), current
special offers and suggestions for `offbeat' travel routes.
STA also have a mailing list
which can be subscribed to at their site. This means the
latest offers are e-mailed to you direct.
Another student travel agent, but this time the site is more
interestingly designed and contains more information. Campus also
provide a fare finding service.
Information on how to get hold of an ISIC card, proof of student
status worldwide and key to many, many discounts.
Not quite as good as Lonely Planet's site, but recently re-vamped
and definitely worth a look.
An online travel magazine, with some interesting stories, but a
lack of depth does let it down.

Cheap Flights
|
Includes an on-line ticket enquiry and booking facility. Lots of
detail given, including times of flights and connections, any
restrictions and exact number of available seats at the price offered.
Enter a city name and this site produces a long list of cheap
flights there, together with the agent offering the fare and their
details.
BA's `no frills airline'. Flights from London Stanstead to Edinburgh,
Milan, Rome, Venice, Munich and more. I can't comment on the quality
of the airline itself as I haven't flown with them, but this website
is stylishly designed and the prices seem excellent. Flights can be
searched for and booked.
Another budget airline, again operating out of London Stansted. Offers
cheap flights to amongst others Dublin, Stockholm and Oslo.
Lots of last minute deals on flights, hotel rooms, theatre tickets
and more. LastMinute also have a mailing list which means the best
deals are sent to you by e-mail every week.

Timetables
Search for train routes and times between any UK stations. Very
useful, although no prices are given and this site gets an awful lot
of traffic, meaning it can be very slow.
A German based site (in English), this gives train times and routes
across Europe, although outside of Germany it only seems to cover
major routes.

Money, Visas, Etc.
Excellent site that can tell you how much almost any currency is
worth in your own currency (or any other). You can also generate
a handy wallet sized `cheat sheet', detailing gradual amounts of the
currency and how much its worth (e.g. £1=10FF, £2=20FF, etc).
Advice on safety in 180 countries worldwide, including complete no go
areas and high dangerous places to visit.

Free E-Mail
A free e-mail account is really useful for keeping in touch with
people back home. Set up the account before you go (all you have to
do is provide a few basic details like a username and password) then
you can send e-mail from anywhere with an internet connection.
The most popular service, which means you're unlikely to get your
first choice of username (i.e. your address will probably have to be
something like myname500@hotmail.com rather than myname@hotmail.com).
If you're English, this is the ideal account, as your address will be
myname@england.com.
