The biggest re-enactments in the world are American Civil War in the U.S.. The Getty'sberg re-enactment in 1998 had an estimated 28,000 re-enactors. Organized in divisions with Calvary and artillery the battles can take up to an hour and a half to complete. Sutlers and many other non-military participants are also involved. The prep for battles is usually very authentic and  the public are usually in great attendance. If you like big battles and lots of social events between and after the battles these are the events for you.
