Let's Go Mets! August 31 - HOME GAME #67 vs Philadelphia Phillies (52-79)

Bartolo Colon (11-11) coming off a great game against the Phils last week and a relief appearance Saturday, faces Jerad Eickhoff (1-1).

73-58 +6.5

Lets Go Mets! Bartolo Colon pitched a great game tonight. He threw 8 shutout innings, allowing only 4 hits, one walk and struck out 9. In the ninth, Jeurys Familia got out of a bases loaded no outs situation by getting former Mets outfielder Jeff Francoeur to hit into a double play. Familia then struck out Andres Blanco to end the game. But the theme of tonight's game was Michael Conforto. Michael went 2 for 2 with a walk and a home run.

Ticket Cost: $89

Game #67 view

I was feeling better today but once I got up this morning, I had a couple phone calls to make and some things to take care of. The next thing I knew it was time to get cleaned up and get to the ballpark. I arrived early [Not as early as yesterday] and headed to McFadden's for a Heineken. As I walked up to the bar a gentleman looked at me strangely as if he knew me. His name was Dennis, we talked a bit and he said he knew someone who looked like me back in school. I was wearing my Conforto shirt and he told me his wife was really following Michael's career through college and now with the Mets. I think he said she had family connected to Conforto or they lived in the same neighborhood [I have to work on my conversation memory recall]. Dennis was a very friendly guy, we exchanged cards, his business card, my website card and then he left McFadden's.

Conforto in the lineup

After a couple beers I headed into the ballpark. And who do I run into, Dennis of course! I met his wife who had just purchased some Michael Conforto memorabilia in the team store. Dennis said as he introduced me to his wife "This is the guy I was telling you about" and she agreed that I looked like Dennis' friend. He requested that his wife take a picture of him and I together.

Afterward I grabbed a Nathan's hot dog since I'd not eaten all day. I made my pre game rounds, saying hello to the various concession people and ushers I've met all year. I was still hungry so I decided to try the nacho stand for the first time. They load up a basket of chips with beans, cheese, salsa, and jalapenos. Tired of beer [did I just write that?] I got a Padron Tequila slushy. They were both good and the jalapenos were hot, making my mouth burn.

Conforto at the plate

With me wearing my Conforto shirt, meeting Dennis and his wife who follows Conforto's career, it made perfect sense that Conforto hit a home run in the 5th to score the first run of the game. Conforto ended up 2 for 2 with a walk for the day. I think I've seen 3 of his four homers, the first was on the road.

I'm trying to see how many times I can write Conforto! I think I counted 14 times on this page. The Mets victory coupled with Washington's loss bumped the Mets NL East lead back to 6.5 games.

Mets Win again!
