Let's Go Mets! August 29 - HOME GAME #65 vs Boston Red Sox (59-69)

Jacob deGrom (12-6) squares off against Joe Kelly (7-6)

71-58 +5.5

Lets Go Mets! The Mets could not back up Jacob deGrom's effort and dropped their second straight to the Boston Red Sox. It is the Mets 5th consecutive loss at home. The Nationals won to cut the Mets division lead to 5.5 games. I don't know what happened to the Mets bats that averaged 10 runs a game the last seven games on the road. deGrom struck out 5 of the first 9 batters he faced in three perfect innings but left after six innings having spotted the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.

Game #65 view

My oldest brother Dennis came down from Rhode Island to go to a couple games with me. Back in 1986 we had bet on the Mets-Red Sox World Series, I won live Maine lobsters and he lost California wine & almonds. Deb and I visited him and his wife back in July. Dennis and I wandered around the ballpark before the game as I of course introduced him to Mets employees. Dennis said I knew more people at Citi Field than he does in Rhode Island after living there many years.

I forgot to take enough pictures

We had nice seats on the Excelsior level. It was pretty warm and little breeze. Walking into the Caesar's Club to use the restroom, it felt nice with the air conditioning. As I wandered back to my seat I saw a Yankees hat laying on the ground. My first impulse was to pick it up and throw it in a trash can, but I resisted. Sitting in the seats in front of us were 2 young boys and their mother. Probably ages 6 & 7, both well behaved boys wore baseball jersey's. Mom took them up the aisle somewhere and when they returned both boys had a pack of Topps baseball cards in their hands. Both boys gleefully opened their pack and sorted through the glossy cardboard. I couldn't resist looking over their shoulders to see who they had gotten. One got a Hunter Pence and a Buster Posey. I commented to mom that I had not seen a kid so happy about a pack of baseball cards since ... I was a kid opening packs of baseball cards.
